Around the Big East 18/19

Leblanc especially strikes me as one of the BE players who may never be a star but has an impact on he league for several years. Great piece for any team.
Like a Nate Lubick?
I just through up. But yes. Maybe better.
We have a player like that, in Figgy.

The problem is, next year he may have to be our #1 scoring option, so that could lead to a cut down on the types of plays he makes, especially on D.
Lmao, how many on here want to fire Jay Wright. Up 19 against St Johns, then Nova gets outscored by 24 points the rest of the game. Lost to Georgetown by double figures. I think that Jay is losing it. Failed to make adjustments in either game. Wonder if it is too early to begin thinking about Nate Oates from Buffalo. Maybe Fred Hoiberg can work his midwest magic right outside the City of Brotherly Love.

Of course I am being facetious, Jay Wright is not going anywhere. I am just pointing out how even good teams can have bad days, or there really is a lot of parity in the Big East. I hope that we finish the season strong and win at least 2 games in the Big East Tournament.
Good teams certainly can have bad days. Tonight we showed that when most of our starting 5 don't play as a unit we are a bad team and the bad days are every other game. From the current trajectory I will be happy to finish .500.
I know some are knocking Providence as an inferior opponent but they have 7 freshmen and sophs who easily dominated our upper classmen. Mullin sarcastically indicated he doesn't need to watch tonight's game film because it was the same as the last game. Perhaps he should delegate someone to watch the past 3 years worth of games because whatever Mullin prepares falls flat on its ass. You either have the players to compete with every team on your schedule except for the rare Duke level talent or you don't. We don't. I have little confidence he will have that talent next season while Providence and Georgetown are building their team with talented high school players who are being given tons of experience while we have to guess if 7 new transfers will click. That they may be the core of our talent is a scary thought.

This also worries me.

As much as I love the competitive nature and schedule structure of Big East, It is quite possible to only have one team in Sweet 16 this season. After watching Nova struggle a bit recently, Marquette seems team with best potential to reach a Final 8 with right matchups, based on their depth and fire power. Will they defend well enough to get that far is a legitimate question.

Villanova got off to a great start in the Big East, because of their winning pedigree, and an intimidation factor. They are far from a great team, IMO.

Marquette will go as far in the tournament as Markus Howard takes them, most likely. As we've seen in the past, players of his ilk can take a team very, very far.

The Big East is only league in country with all teams above .500. Tough every night.

You would like to think that playing rugged tough games night after night would get you ready for the tourney. Hopefully the BE will show it’s pedegree then.

If anything, playing tough games all the time tends to wear a team out come tournament time. Remember in 2011, when the Big East had 11 teams in the tournament? Only 2 made it past the first weekend. Or when 9 ACC teams were in just 2 years ago? Only 1 made it to the Sweet Sixteen. Now those that advanced did thrive, because those conferences produced the National Champion that year, but a lot of their teams were worn out by tournament time.

One of the reasons the ACC was so successful in the early to mid 90s, was because not only did they have great teams, but they had a lot of soft landings at the bottom of those conferences. So, yes they played tough games, but some nights their starters only had to go about 25 minutes, or so (or at least, they didn't have to go full speed all of the time).

Nice to get another game on over the air Fox. Hopefully we play well, win, and impress any potential cruits watching that may not have access to cable channel Fox.

PC offense abysmal, trailing Marquette 31-20 at the half. Morrow, transfer from Nebraska, has added a lot of physicality to M’Q front line.
lol PC down 21.
So PC is 2-0 vs. us winning by 14, and 19.
3-10 vs. everyone else SMHHHHH
Marquette has beaten everyone except St. John’s. SMHHHHHHH

Funny how Cooley's suit matches the Marquette uniforms.

Marquette will officially clinch a top 2 seed today because at 12 wins it is mathematically impossible for SJU or SHU behind them to do any better than 11-7 at this point since they are both 7-7.

Yes Morrow and John are big and physical and prevent PC from bullying them underneath like the Friars twice did to us.

That is going to be a worry with the DePaul & Xavier games.
