Around College Basketball

Amazing part about Hofstra's win over Arkansas is that Abayomi Iyiola, a transfer from Arkansas had 18 pts and 14 rebs against his former team. Also, Hofstra lost to Houston in overtime and by only 2 points to Maryland.

Happy to see Speedy Claton, a former player of mine doing well in his first year as a Head Coach.

ASU is 5-7, net 132, and a pretty bad team.  SF doesn't have any high quality wins yet so while they are 1 of 4 very good teams in the WCC none of the other 3 have much of a chance of giving the Zags a competitive run over the course of the conference season.

Breaking: The ACC ADs just voted to rescind the league's forfeit rule, a source tells @CBSSports, effecitve immediately.

The league will also move to the “seven-and-one” rule, meaning a team will have to play if it has seven players and one coach available.

Anytime a  WCC school, like San Francisco, beats a Pac -12 team, on the road,  I think of it as a good win.
Also, I wasn't implying SF could win the WCC championship. I just think that this year, SF, St Mary or BYU could give Gonzaga a competitive game, on their home court. Gonzaga usually drops a game in conference play, but I agree that they are the presumed WCC conference champ every year.

Western Kentucky has a 7'5" kid who has 7 blocked shots against Kentucky at Rupp, and that's just in the first half.

Kellan Grady, a transfer from Davidson with 14 points for Kentucky in the first half, making RedStormNC and me proud.

Unfortunately he had zero in the 2nd half lol

Rutgers now has a fan vaccination requirement & tightened fan protocols for all indoor sports;

Duke announced this afternoon that next game is cancelled due to Covid.  Cancelations becoming overwhelming.  Maybe NCAA/conferences should shut down the season for a couple of weeks til this epidemic dies down because this is ludicrus.

My educated guess is that this wave will last 6-8 weeks and result in a flood of cases (as it is already) with little severity (at least among the vaccinated population).  Unfortunately (1) a lot of society is not yet prepared to make the transition from pandemic to endemic (i.e. it's here to stay and as long as severity is low we live with it as we do with other illnesses); and (2) it isn't going to get there in the next couple of months - which is going to gut much of the college basketball season.

From a purely SJU fan standpoint, public health be damned, what a shame - I am sure the program will roll with it as well or better as anyone else, but it's just disappointing after we had all hoped for a more or less normal season.  Tough to judge a program when it has to spend so much time fighting disruption instead of making progress.

 U.S. health officials are cutting isolation restrictions for those who test positive for the coronavirus and shortening the time that close contacts have to quarantine. People with the virus can leave isolation after five days, down from 10 days.
