Around College Basketball

I feel old, but I only first heard about the “cameo”  website a couple of months ago.  For those who likewise may not be current on tech/social media, the site provides users with an opportunity to have relatively famous actors, athletes, etc. send a personalized message to someone for a fee.  It’s not cheap, and prices vary based upon demand, but it’s more reasonable than you would think.

My wife surprised me by having Coach Lavin film a personalized birthday message to me for my 50th.  Honestly, it was very touching.  He spent some real time speaking with her about my love for the Johnnies.  The 5+ minute video clip went through my early days as a fan in the early 80s as a kid, and ran through  both low and high points to current day.  I highly recommend looking into it as something to provide a diehard fan.

Yeah, my wife just gave my daughter an Ozzy from Survivor Cameo for her birthday yesterday.

PS Monte, Ginger Lynn can be had for $50, cheaper than both Ozzy and Lavs.

Hollis Copeland was one of my favorite non Johnnie college players. Classic wing for those Rutgers teams of the mid to late 70s. I think he was an underclassman with James Bailey on that Rutgers Final Four team.

Yes he was. Dabney and Jordan in backcourt. Sellers(one of my all time favs going back to Tom Jeff High school) and Cope up front. Bailey in the middle. That was the starting 5 for the final 4 team. Hell of a team.

Yes they were and we had a great game with them in the ECAC championship game in 1976 at the Garden. I think we lost like 79-77. I remember playing sick at work to leave early to go to the game. My supervisor was suspicious so I had to be careful not to be seen on TV. I had actually convinced myself that I was sick and as I was driving to the game I didn't feel well until I reminded myself I wasn't really sick. /media/kunena/emoticons/sick.png

Musselman can sure recruit, no doubt helped by his team's strong performance this past season. Arkansas now has commitments from the number 6 and 7 ranked players in the 2022 class (according to ESPN rankings) and three other top 100 recruits from that class.

I think we lost to them more than once, in the ECAC championship. Sellers was the difference. It was one of the few times Beaver Smith  couldn't contain his man. Very competitive games.

Not sure where to put this but was just reading about D-Wade's son Zaire signing a contract with the Utah G League affiliate.  Story goes on to say that he made this decision, as a 2021 HS grad and 3 star recruit with offers from Toledo and South Carolina, in October, signing with the affiliate of a team his dad has an ownership stake in.  I will only say that Zaire sounds like he is incredibly lucky his dad is D-Wade.

The AP pre season poll has become nothing more than a school name recognition poll.

With all the transfers, one and dones, etc. not a single voter has information or an inkling how any one of these teams will perform.

Just another way to give the big name schools/coaches an edge going into the season in my opinion.

Believe it or not, St. John’s was once considered a “big name school”.

Let’s hope CMA and this team makes a statement this season.

Means nothing until the season is in progress.  Let’s hope CMA can cobble these pieces together to get the team we want and be proud of.

Just got the newest issue of Sports Illustrated in the mail
Their Top 20 includes only 1 Big East team - Nova at #10
Kansas is #3 (picked for the Final Four with Gonzaga, Texas & UCLA). Indiana is #19
Would be two great "upset" wins for the Johnnies
