Other than $$$$ why would anyone want Memphis in the BE?

1. Increased revenue.
2. Strengthen conference.
3. Increased Television exposure.
4. Geographically not too far, an easy flight.
5.  At present a high profile coach.
6. An attractive destination for those who follow the team which will increase when we win more.
7. Put yourself in the best position when future poachers do and will come.

other than that I can’t think of any reason to add Memphis as the 12th team and possibly have 2 six team divisions.

All good points. 12 teams with 2 divisions seems like the easiest case for addition. After that it would get messy. That’s why I’d say hold the phone on Memphis. If more than one addition would do more harm than good, have to make sure the 1 addition is the right one. Maybe it’s Memphis but to me they seem like the least likely to commit to a basketball only future.

I would love to see Memphis basketball as part of the Big East. The question is what would they do with their football program? Unlike UConn, they are in a conference and have reached a reasonable level of success. I can't see them going the independent route and I can't see another decent conference taking them as a member for football only when their strongest sport is men's basketball.

An intriguing thought, however!!

Cool road trip

Our trip to Nashville and Memphis was epic!!
Even though they are very different, I love both cities!!

My first trip to Memphis was in late 1968 as part of a team of community organizers trying to help put together a coalition for a first year memorial of the assassination of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King.  Too much pain and too much rage.  We failed miserably.

If the Big East adds a 12th team it should be Dayton or Saint Louis.
Both certainly fit the character of the league, but do either move the needle with regard to Fox opening the wallet when TV renegotiations happen? If money is primary driver, it needs to be bigger names than those two.

And if money is not primary driver, we should have brought both in and let UConn die a slow death elsewhere.

The St. Louis metropolitan area has 2.8 million people. Dayton less at around 800,000 , you’re adding two markets totaling 3.6 million people.

I do like Dayton and St. Louis, but you make a good point about them not moving the needle for television contracts.  I had previously liked VCU and Witchita State much more.  However, the problem is both programs have lost the cachet they had with their former coaches (Smart/Marshall).

Tough choice and it will be interesting to see what develops.  Bottom line, I think we will add a 12th team since the current landscape is "eat or be eaten".

I actually wouldn't mind seeing us adding the Bonnies although they are admittedly not a big media center. Solid pure basketball tradition though and have been on the rise in recent years. But then again imagine those road trips to Allegany, NY...

After their Uconn like football performance last w/e (lost by nearly to 50 to Rutgers), Temple should think seriously about the level of football thye can compete at.  They would be a natural fit for the BE and I was disappointed they were not among the founding teams as we have a long history with them pre BE.  Good media location and natural rival with others in the league historically or we could consider the "other SJU" with whom we have a long history pre the BE.

Nova is not going to want a team in the BE in their backyard.

Appears Joe lunardi doesn’t have us making the NCAA tournament this yr
His brain has been so incuclated by us not making that dance, that his neurons won't fire to type the words on his screen.

Before the season starts what lunardi says has  no merit.  Only after many games have been played with whatever system he has can he somewhat accurately figure out the bracket.

Based on our body of work so far this season  how could he not....we're undefeated!  Unless he is referring to that practice we didn't have yet. ..........SMH
