Around College Basketball

As respects Fordham, weren't they originally in the MAAC when that League was formed back in the Day ?  The MAAC would be a good League for the Rams to return to and reignite the Battle of the Bronx with Manhattan .

Fordham would be an ideal candidate for the less competitive Patriot League.

100% agree.  Fordham never achieved any demonstrable success to continue in a pretty good mid-major conference like the A10.  They have never become like similar large urban Jesuit schools like St. Joes' Loyola Chicago, and certainly our BE brethren, Xavier, Creighton and Georgetown.  Perhaps they still aspire to become close to these schools.

Hey Paultz! Any chance that Cool Mike gets Aiden Applewhite to sign.  Decision is imminent.
The ship has sailed. Miss State

If the A-10 wanted a NYC metro presence, Iona might fill that spot.

.
Looking at it that way, Fordham might be the best option for the NYC area.  Iona would have even less athletic resources than say Lasalle or Davidson.

Van Macon would be on my shortlist if I were an NYC-area, mid-major AD.

While I'd hate to see him leave, Van would be an ideal candidate at Fordham

Can we get the Dukies back on the schedule? /media/kunena/emoticons/devil.png

The Kentucky Caliparis drop another in crunch time against Arkansas to fall to 5-13 overall.

Sensible that Ivy League presidents will allow current senior athletes to participate in athletics as full-time grad students at their current university next year in a break with League policies. The change is a result of Covid-19, which canceled a full year of sports

Fordham lef the MAAC Conference to join the non-althletic scholarship Patriot League (I believe they now do allow athletic scholarships) as according to Fordham they aligned more academically with those schools (same reason Miami used to leave the Big East for the ACC).  They didn't fare well there (lack of scholarships didn't help them in basketball) and moved to the A-10 who wanted a NYC presence.  Not working out there for them either.

Has the NCAA increased the number of scholarships that can be given out next year?

Although if you aren't on an academic scholarship or a serious combinations of grants, that's an extra $80,000 out of your pocket. If I'm a stud basketball player, I'm probably taking my Ivy degree and trying to transfer to Stanford, Cal, Northwestern, Duke, Notre Dame, etc.

And the league probably should have announced this plan at the time of cancelation.

Has anyone heard any update on Coach Tim Cluess?

Watching Oregon play Arizona and LJ is matched up against my sons former BrookwoodElite teammate freshman  Ben Mathurin. They are tied at the half.

Significant

What was noteworthy was what NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt said, that a positive COVID-19 test wouldn’t eliminate a team from the tournament. The NCAA has said teams need to register seven consecutive days of negative tests before making the trip to Indianapolis for the bubble the governing body is creating.

The common thought process was that a positive test when there could end a team’s season. Gavitt said that is not the case.“We have procedures and protocols in place that should not eliminate teams from the entirety of the tournament as long as they’re maintaining that physical distancing and wearing masks,” Gavitt said during the broadcast. “The team should be able to move on safely. … We will contact trace and isolate that individual, but it should not eliminate a team.”https://nypost.com/2021/02/13/ncaa-tournament-reveal-includes-surprising-covid-19-development/

Nice to see Michael O'Connell our Graduate assistant and former grad walk on Thomas O'Connell brother contributing and playing well as a freshman at Stanford. Both are great kids and I coached against them numerous times. Ultimate leaders and competitiors on the floor. Unbelievable athletes both had scholarships for lacrosse and basketball.
