Around College Basketball

Quite a few blue bloods - Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Michigan State (lost again last night) are struggling this year.

Curbelo with a solid game last night in Illinois' overtime win over Indiana - 12 pts, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a couple of steals.

Great game. And Cockburn is perhaps the most physcially dominant player in the nation.

I watched the first half and part of the second before turning in.  Cockburn is just a beast inside.  What a physical presence.  Curbelo does have a habit of leaving his feet but he will learn.  Having a solid freshman year off the bench.

I watched most of the Stanford-USC game last night and got to see O'Connell play for first time.

They lost but he had a really good game.   20 pts, 6 reb, 4 asst's  in 38 minutes.

He's definitely making the most of his time,

The guy he replaced might not get his job back when he is again healthy.

Last night I checked out the Dayton at Duquesne game, and the announcers explained the great start for the Dukes was because they were playing their first campus game in over a year. The campus arena was renovated and it was renamed for the corporate donor. They didn't give financial details, but it seemed the renovation was quite extensive.
Since a new campus arena is not financially feasible, perhaps our new president can recruit a New York corporation to help with a significant improvement to our campus arena. They would certainly get plenty of exposure, since all our games are televised.

Found an article from yesterday and has a bunch of pictures.  Really sharp looking... but seating capacity 3,500 and 4,400 standing..

Houston with a bad loss @ East Carolina to fall to 15-2.   Had been moving towards a 1 seed before tonight.

#5 Houston with a real bad loss to poor East Carolina team and bamafan's Crimson Tide with an impressive win against LSU. Bama getting close to top 5 in hoops; that's been a long time coming.

It's a good year to be good -- blue bloods won't be blocking paths to the Final Four.

Just read that Tom Konchalski is going into hospice care today
Tom has been a legendary figure in NYC area high school hoops for many, many years
Let's keep him in our thoughts and prayers

Sad to hear. He is an absolute legend and his word was always the law. He is such a wonderful man as well. Prayers!
