Around College Basketball

Wouldn't surprise anyone if Van Macon applied for the job

Could also add Grasso's name to the list of suitors, I would guess

Unless there is bad blood from last time, you'd think Grasso is a potential serious target for them.  Also wonder if Mike Rice is interested and/or gets a serious look?

Lol...fun dinner convo here as my daughter will be attending Fordham in the fall, but diehard Johhnies fan since she was a kid (my fault...lol).

I told her not to get any hopes up for her potential new 2nd fav. team and painful enough to be a Johnnies fan.

Hopefully Ed Kull doing well and he gets the interim title moved to permanent AD and he can hire the coach..I guess they wait until off-season for that, as well as seeing coaches available after this season over.

I knew Fordham was bad, but I sat through 2 or 3 televised games, and make St.. John's seem like they were Villanova level bball in comparison.

Not a Chris Mack fan, but glad he and Louisville gave an L to Duke & K today.

And Coach K is getting ripped all over Twitter for how he answered a student question after the game in his typical D-bag like self.

At the Duke-Johnny game at MSG a few years ago, I was sitting amongst mostly Duke alum and students who had all paid threw the nose for the tickets. Even then, there was a lot of chatter amongst the fan base that K's best days were behind him. I can only imagine what they're saying about him now.

Monte, where you the poster on the site that has a Sister who went to Duke and sat with her in the VIP seats behind their bench at MSG when we upset them in 2018?

Not me 85'

Fordham job, early lists are always crazy;

The early list of prospective candidates, according to sources, is long, with young up-and-coming head coaches such as Shaheen Holloway of Saint Peter’s and Jared Grasso of Bryant on it, former head coaches with past success in the area in Steve Lavin and Fran Fraschilla, veterans types like Pittsburgh assistant Tim O’Toole, Washington assistant Jerry Hobbie, a Fordham alum, and former Georgia Tech and George Mason head coach Paul Hewitt, in addition to Villanova assistant coach Kyle Neptune.

I think Fran loves seeing his name mentioned whenver a local job opens, but I can't imagine it would ever get beyond a friendly 5-minute phone call. If they go Hewitt over a young guy, I'm going to assume Oliva and Gempesaw are heading up the search committee.

If I were Fordham I'd grab Holloway, but if I were Holloway I'd wait for a bigger job, maybe.  Grasso seems the obvious choice there.

Okay.  I don't remember who it was but he had some funny post regarding his sister's and other Duke fans attitude and conversations with him before the game and after.

I think they opened up the checkbook for Holloway, but for the longest time a Long Island gym teacher would make more annually than the St. Peter's head basketball coach. If going to Fordham quadruples your salary, I think you need to go for it.

Plus, if he fails, I don't think he starts at square one as an assistant -- I think he can go back to being a head coach at a St. Peter's-type school. (Unless he thought high major assistant is a safer bet to get another look at a bigger job.)

Plus, would a bigger job hire Holloway right out of St. Peter's? He might need an intermediary step like Fordham. I will say that if I'm Boston College, I probably try to bring him in for an interview when I finally sever ties with Christian.

Heck happened to Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans? Lost by 30 at Rutgers 67-37 to fall to 2-5 in conference and looked beyond terrible doing it.

37 minutes for Mike O’Connell local freshmen & brother of Tom, a Johnny last year. Mike had 14 pts, 4 assists in big win over Zona last night.  Looks like Stanford was a wise choice for several reasons.

Santa Clara County (where Stanford is located) banned all sporting events.  Stanford home games were an hour away from campus and their practices were off campus as well and I read they were living out of a hotel.  Makes their accomplishments even more impressive.  Believe O'Connell getting more playing time due to injuries on Stanford and he is taking full advantage of it.

They have the green light to come back now, so home game next weekend.
