Around College Basketball

If you have a subscription to the Athletic an interesting article. Pitino is briefly mentioned.

Thanks. Real good article. I would love to see the sprinting drill.

Monday night in January: Big Monday on ESPN or “Dateline”?

“‘Dateline’. By far. Not even close.”

Is it really Big Monday since the Big East is no longer involved? No, it’s not.

Anyone who doesn't think Cooper Flagg is ready for the NBA knows nothing about bball.

He already double dribbles like a pro.

First one at the beginning of the play is not a dribble. As the bounce pass comes in, he deflects it back onto he ground, grabs it which establishes possession and then starts his dribble.

Is there a snow storm in Virginia? There is literally NO ONE at the VCU v Fordham game. Less than at beginning of COVID

It’s as cold in Richmond today as it is here in NY. I know Northern Va. got hit with snow Sunday and Monday and according to one of my kids who was down there, they got at least 8” of snow.

Luke warm take: I actually enjoy peacock. Good coverage of games. Auto playing from SHU/Depaul to Dayton/umass.

Amazing how different a team looks when they’re about to get upset. How did this team beat UConn and Marquette?! Will be a fascinating bubble team.

Stop it.

You're taking all the fun out of my Cooper Bird, um sorry, Larry Flagg bashing!

Great to see Val and Big East at the forefront of.. oh wait

Yeah, not good and exactly why St. John's needs to be open to a Big 12 invite if it ever comes. Bad year for the Big East to be so mediocre, too.

That said this is still far from final, but not a good sign.

Sure adding a boatload of teams into one conference could be “fun” but at this juncture I’m much more concerned with the soul of the NCAA Tournament being ripped away from us as fans. Feels like we are heading towards it
They're smart enough to know you need the auto-bids from every conference since that is what makes it a truly American sports tradition unlike anything else. I'd be surprised if they're dumb enough to expand the field so greatly that it diminishes it.

But I do think the Big East is going to be an inevitably squeezed into mid-major status by the time all the TV contracts are up. Its a shame.

The college hoops game badly needs a strong and business savvy commissioner. Now that NCAA is irrelevant, letting elites manage themselves is akin to letting the fox in chicken coop. The NFL owners obviously exert great influence on Goodell, but major college sports leadership pales by comparison.

Noted, I will be making a trip to Omaha before our game @creighton next season :)
