The Gainesville Sun is reporting that Florida’s Keyontae Johnson has been diagnosed with acute myocarditis:  heart inflammation that may be related to an earlier infection for COVID-19.

Just read Zach's article in the Post.  this bears watching as it could effect a lot of athletes.  Many felt the college athletes were young and fit but it may be a complication of Covid 19.  Safety first for athletes.  If this is true and it happens to another young man or woman, NCAA may have to consider no more sports this year.

3,000 fans at Yum Center for Ky, Louisville game. Vitale screaming incessantly. Love the mute button

Imagine Dickie V and Bill Walton doing a game together, baby!

I always mute, talking heads just get in the way, but just my personal preference. I did watch the game and while close, absolutely ugly basketball. And yes,I am ready for the "both teams would beat us" replies but that doesn't change the fact that that was a poorly played, poorly coached, ugly game.

Don't know if injuries have played any role, but noticed that Aidan Igiehon didn't get in the game at all today and is overaging 2 pts and 8 mpg in the five games he did play. Imagine he may be looking for greener pastures soon.

Damien Sears had 20 and 9 rebounds in Nicholls St close loss to LSU. He had done little to date, but good for him.

Just my opinion but this Gonzaga team maybe the most complete CBB team in a LONG time. Like last 15-20 years.

They are THAT good.

In response to Brooklyn Red's post.

It was what I figured was the case with Keyontae Johnson.  Unfortunately his is not the first case with the most well known being Boston Red Sox pitcher, Eduardo Rodriguez.  He missed this season due to the same thing after he had COVID-19.  Rodriguez is older (27).

The medical profession and the NCAA (and leagues) are aware of this complication and it is why Trevor Lawrence  missed Clemson's first game (the regular season game) against ND although he had already missed one game and had since tested negative.  He was allowed to be on the sidelines since his quarantine period was over however he couldn't practice or play because he had not yet cleared the ACC's three-part testing protocol that evaluates symptoms of myocarditis and other cardiovascular issues after a student athlete test positive for COVID-19.  Once he cleared all three he was allowed back on the field.

Each conference has their own protocol but others might want to follow the ACC's if they don't already.

Maybe Justin Champagnie should take the rest of the season off to rehab and transfer to SJU... ;-)

Zags 21 tournament appearances in a row, 23 tewnty plus win seasons in a row, won 30 plus games 6 of last 7 seasons. Few may have best program in the country right now. What a performance today up 30 plus until 5 minutes left when they emptied the bench. At one point had 23 assists and only 5 TOs.

Gonzaga could run the table the remainder of the way.  They were a final four type team then recruited 5* Jalen Suggs (expected to be '21 high lottery pick) also got a transfer from  Florida Andrew Nembhard) who comes off the bench but would be a starter on any other team.   Andrew's brother Ryan Nembhard '21 PG committed to Creighton.

Earlier in the week they had back to back games on mon & tues against same team Northwestern State, never saw that before but they were desperate to add games to their schedule.

Very surprised Igiehon came back for his sophomore year.  Hardly played as a freshman and looks like another lost year for a former 5* recruit.

Not sure how many on here watched Igiehon play in high school. I saw him on a few occasions and was not impressed. He could not dribble or shoot very well and had no back to the basket moves. He was an athletic player who could run and jump. The competition that Lawrence Woodmere was not always the best.

Imagine if we had gotteh Igiehon instead of Julian, we would definitely be in trouble. I never thought that Julian would have developed as fast as he has. He has definitely exceed expectations to this point. When talking about recruiting, after the top 25 to 50 players, it is a crap shoot. Julian's brother Justin was only a 3* recruit and he was lighting it up this year until he got huirt.

Tony Chiles' son was the point guard on their team at Loughlin. Tony told me when Julian signed with St Johns that him and his brother had the potential to play in the League. At the time, I thought he was crazy, now, not so much.

Looking forward to January 2nd when we resume play.

Another factor is would getting Aiden have helped Mullin's cause of staying?  Aiden committed in October 2018.  While panther makes solid points about his style of play and the lesser competition he faced in HS, he would have been a big time highly ranked big man.  The twins were barely on the radar of the previous staff so who knows how it would have transpired.

Panther, thanks as always for your insight. I for one never saw Aidan play in high school, but remember numerous articles praising his potential as a big time recruit (perhaps his story of growing up in Ireland and coming to NYC to realize his potential made it more of a story). He was ESPN's #36 recruit when he signed with Louisville. He and the Champagnie brothers are just another example of HS rankings not being the be all and end all.

And , Xavier Coaches have moved on to higher positions from their success . If we can just get a Winning tradition started here again , we might start getting that High level recruit  .  I'm sure Coach A knows we need to get to the second tier of the BE and not  continue our 3 rd tier level .
