Around College Basketball

Not only is it a wild west in regards to the portal and NIL but looks like any type of eligibility rules can't be enforced. Want to play 8 years, go ahead. Want to transfer mid season and play immediately? Nothing stopping you.

Wonder if Joel wants to play another season or two in college

Baker has basically said as much in the ESPN interview saying he needs Congress to give them an exemption. (Basically ignoring the only other option, which is having them be employees and collectively bargain).

Total shit show. NCAA deserves to end as a result. Wouldn't be surprised if it ends up just being a host of the NCAA Tournament and regulating non-revenue sports.

NCAA gave an extra year of eligibility for the Covid year for players who either played or opted out. Based on that, those players in school get an extra year (5th year) to play. If you redshirted a prior or afterwards, you can get a sixth or more year (again five of playing).

Since the Ivy League cancelled their sports seasons during Covid and there players didn’t get the benefit of the fifth year of eligibility. Players like Dingle and Ledlham are playing this year as their fourth year eligibility wise as if they redshirted during Covid. They don’t get that fifth year to play. With this ruling, the could get that fifth year.

All of the Ivy guys should have a fifth year like everyone else. That would certainly make some interesting roster decisions

What's the story with Jenkins and his eligibility... This is his 4th year playing D1... he spent a year at JUCO... does he technically get a 5th season to play D1 ball?

(if anyone understands this... please explain slowly lol)

My understanding is that this is Jenkins last year of eligibility.

I know this because Marillac has said multiple times he's excited for next season ;)

It could be an interesting test case: I knew he played his first year at Pacific, but what I didn't know is that he did part of his sophomore year there too. I thought he spent a full year at juco but it looks like that was not the case when you look at his player profile page on the Pacific site.

Guys who were in second year of juco at the time didn't get three years of eligibility upon entering D1, but Jenkins technically was in D1 the three years prior to this season.
