Around College Basketball

Grand Canyon lost by 1 point to Arizona State last night; our old friend Mikey Dixon had 8 points on 1 of 6 shooting.

Coach K has taken it even farther.

This is just embarrassing for Coach K, outside of the hardcore Duke fans, everybody sees what's going on here. He doesn't have a homecourt advantage now since they aren't allowed to have a fans in the arena, and it's resulted in 2 home losses for him. Now he's cancelling the remainder of the non-conference games and claiming it's all for the "players' and he's questioning if there should even be a season with the pandemic going on, when he's already been on record of supporting to play this season and saying there can't be 2 years in a row without an NCAA tournament.

What's even more funny about this is he saying it's best for the players to travel home and be with their families during the pandemic, that's why he just had to cancel the remaining non-conference games, when literally the CDC has recommended that people DON'T travel home for the holidays because it leads to more spread. So, does Coach K really care about the kids and their families and he's concerned about them not being together or does he care about his record?
Making Plays, an excellent, well thought out assessment of this situation. So good, I copied and pasted it, and gave you credit for it, on another social media site. I didn't provide your screen name out of confidentiality. Hope you're Ok with this. If not, I'll remove that post. But this was sooo darn good!
Yeah, he's ducking Charleston Southern and Gardner Webb. What a wuss. It's easy to be cynical of Coach K(or the extent of the pandemic or the need for social responsibility) but there is a clear separation of his POV that the season started too early and the cancellation of the two games. The only valid criticism of the cancelling of the two games is his suggestion that kids go home. Agree that given CDC recommendations that was a bad idea to put forward.

Re his POV he's allowed to state it. Pitino said the same before playing a game. Easy for those two. They have more money than god. The ONLY reason they are playing games right now is money. Plain and simple. I have no problem with Coach K being cynical of THAT.

Final: No. 19 Rutgers 74, Maryland 60

Steve Pikiell can coach a little bit, nice rebuild.

Rick Pitino always said the 3 greatest coaching jobs in terms of inheriting nothing and turning it into a National power was Calipari at UMASS, Calhoun at UConn and Tark at Vegas. Pikiel at Rutgers is not at that level but just making RU respectable let alone top 20 good has been remarkable.

Positive update: Florida basketball star Keyontae Johnson, who collapsed on court Saturday, is now in stable condition, breathing on his own and speaking with parents and doctors.

People complain about Bill Walton. I get he’s not for everyone’s tastes. But Dan Dakich is hands down the worst analyst on TV.

Shitty coach
Worse announcer.

What are you thanking god for
My guess reply to Paultz' post on the status of Keyontae Johnson.

If there is one thing I thank usguard for, is that he never uses the quote function and saves me a ton of wasted scrolling time.

Dakich comes off a bit pompous as well.

But we have to guess what he is replying to. Perhaps a compromise and partially quote.

Dakich is a dumpster fire, no question.
But Walton is the whole landfill fully engulfed in flames.

I never understood Walton hate. I think he's hilarious to listen to. Agree with the Dakich hate, though.

The Supreme Court will hear NCAA’s appeal whether the organization violated federal antitrust law by trying to limit compensation on college athletes.
