Not sure anybody could hold out hope for UNC given how incestuous they are. They probably would have gone with Wes Miller if Hubert did tank again this seasonI think a lot of experts disagree with me, but I believe it's easier to recruit to Ohio State.
But to be honest, if I were Dusty I would have been hoping all season that Hubert sucked this season.
And fractured his wristDrew Valentine is going to win A-10 Coach of the Year. I remember someone on this board banging the table for him to be hired as St Johns coach.
Chris Holtman's buyout from Ohio State is 12.9 million dollars. Unf--kingreal, getting paid a ridiculous amount of money for being a failure at your job. I used to love all sports, can remember seeing Willie Mays at the Polo Grounds, Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson and others at Ebbets Field, Joe Namath and the Jets and Mets teams at Shea Stadium.
One of my fondest memories is attending the 1960 All Star Game at Yankee Stadium with my Father when I was 12 years old. What more could I ask for, all of my heroes were there, Ted Williams, Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, Stan Musial, Ernie Banks, Mickey Mantle, Roberto Clemente and so many other. I think the tickets were $5.00 for bleacher seats, lol.
Watching the Super Bowl on Sunday, they said some tickets were $8,000.00 and suites were 2.5 million. How many 12 year olds today will be able to have the same experience that I had? Most families can't afford to attend All Star games or Championships in any sport. The commercialization of sports has turned me off. The only team that I root for is St Johns because of my connection to the school. Hoping and praying that we can turn this season around beginning Sunday.
You are probably right about the cost of the tickets. We didn't have a lot of money either, my father was a chauffeur during the day and an elevator operator at a hotel in Manhattan during the evening. It was so amazing to see so many stars at one time. It may sound crazy but I knew all of them, from Elroy Face to Minnie Minoso, lol. It was the era of baseball cards and I used my Christmas money for a subscription to the Sporting News.Panther, I was also at that All Star Game at Yankee Stadium in 1960. My dad and I also sat in the bleachers. I was 10 years old at that time. Those were the days when MLB played 2 All Star Games each season - 1 in an American League city and 1 in a National League city.
My dad was a laborer and we didn't have a whole lot of money. If memory serves me correctly, bleacher seats were 50 cents during the regular season and $2 for the All Star Game. When we got to the front of the line to buy the tickets, I thought my dad was going to have a heart attack when he heard the price. But, being the good guy that he was, we saw the game and probably ate spaghetti for dinner for the next month. To me, it was well worth it. What a thrill it was to see all of those superstars play with and against each other. An experience of a lifetime to me.
I remember box seats at Yankee Stadium and later at Shea Stadium costing $3.50. I wonder how much those seats sell for today. You are probably right about the cost of the tickets. No Luis?
Guys…this walk down memory lane is great…going to games back in those days with your dad was always special and memorable…didn’t matter where you sat.I remember box seats at Yankee Stadium and later at Shea Stadium costing $3.50. I wonder how much those seats sell for today.
I loved The Sporting News and subscribed as well. It was in a newspaper style format in those days. They published the box score from every MLB game played each week. Hard to believe they could do it with the "technology" that was available back in the day.
My parents were not sports fans. I got my fanaticism for sports from hanging out in the schoolyard with hundreds of kids practically every day. On weekends, I would have breakfast with my family and wouldn't see them again until dinnertime. There was never any adult supervision at the yard, but we managed ourselves quite well and took care of any "issues" that developed on our own. It was a great way to grow up. Kids today don't know what they are missing.
