Around College Basketball

Maybe we should just leave it as Slazinski is a very good player with different skills than Ledlum , also a very good player .

Could we be a better team with both . I think the answer is yes .
Not enough minutes to make them both happy and seems like Slazinski realized that. Hopefully works out well for both of them this year.

funny feel as though we swapped players from different coasts. Brandon and Brady have had similar freshman campaigns. Patience required.
Biggest adjustments to rugged BE play for Brady is increasing his strength & adding more quickness defensively. It will come & his shooting ability will also be a real asset next year. Kid is obviously a keeper & like most freshmen just needs some time.

Very true . And , I think we are all seeing , with rare exception , that 18-19 year old 4-5 star players are still up against it by having to play against 24-25 year olds who have played College ball for 4-5 years .

It’s not just Wilcher and Dunlap . Mgbako is struggling too, at Indiana . Gardner ? Same .

What ever happen to Brandon Gardner at USC? Looked and saw he’s only played 4 minutes all season. Not even listed last few games.

He was hurt originally, but played marginally w 2 points in first game back, but not sure what current absence means. Always felt that a one dimensional power guy like him would have to wait his turn and then perhaps in a supplemental role. That “Madison Square Gardner” stuff was hype imo.

FYI, Brandon Williams a SJ recruit w better skill set than Gardner is thus far in 5 games seeing 8 minutes/game averaging 1 point per outing. Tough for freshmen to break into solid teams.

Would we be interested in Brandon Williams if he and his mom want us ?

I think you would have to ask Rick. BW has good shooting ability, can handle pretty well and a skill set that could translate to wing or perhaps SG imo. The wild cards in any thought of him transferring here would be how well staff thinks he can defend and how much of a challenge it would be dealing w his “entourage”. Rick will fill out roster w quality guys and in spring experienced transfers. I personally would be quite ok if BW stays at UCLA or goes elsewhere.

Thanks,
I think you covered all the bases with your answer.

Funny how we were so eager to get him and what a
difference a CRP has in changing the outlook.

Thanks again,

I agree I liked BWill better. Both struggling in current situation but Gardner not even on the box scores was mildly surprising to me even though we knew he was a tweener forward. I think moving on from him and his mom were good for us overall. Just trying to figure out why he isn’t even listed and getting mop-up minutes.

In addition we have Luis, with Dunlap and Jaiden Glover, all with vastly better skill sets and potential imo with their shooting ability. What we will need is a true PF with skills much more.

It’s so nice to have a staff that we can be 1000% prepared for portal season. I don’t think we will need to look into previous staff’s recruiting to think of prioritized recruits.

To recklessly speculate, I wonder if Mgbako continues to struggle that we would be interested — although it sounds like the defense is the main thing holding him back. Another reckless no source speculation would be a guy like Tobe Awaka, who hasn’t played much but would fit Pitino’s character to a T.
