Around College Basketball

Arizona State just hit a three from halfcourt at the buzzer to beat Arizona at Arizona and likely now to get an NCAA bid (20-9, 11-7). Don't think Hurley is going anywhere.
Don't think that matters. Even if Hurley is not fired a Last Four NCAA bid will not be greeted with lots of love.

Let's assume SJU does target Hurley, the question is would Hurley be interested and would AZ St WAIVE the buyout. My guess is yes on both even if AZ St had decided not to fire him.

Interesting Fordham. Frankly, I don't see any way Hurley is getting fired but respect your insight. I hope we don't look toward Hurley and doubt he'd be interested but I have no inside info for sure.

Unfortunately I also agree that if Hurley is the first phone call again this time around it will have a different outcome than last time

That's my point even if they make the Tourney.

Do you think AZ St will stand in the way of SJU trying to lure Hurley this time. And if his buyout becomes a sticking point do you really think AZ St would not either waive it or reduce it significantly?

Barring a miracle run to the S16 or something ASU would love for somebody to ‘poach’ him so they wouldn’t have to pay his buyout to fire him. They’d almost certainly waive their end of buyout.

On the other side, Hurley knows his clock is approaching midnight there so he’d jump at the chance to ensure at least another 4-5 years at P6 school with a P6 salary. He may never get a P6 job again if he ends up staying another year there before getting canned after another mediocre season.

What if Az St. goes on a run, maybe the sweet 16 or even the elite8, they'll retain him.

If Claxton is interested I would prefer him over Urgo or Jones.
I listed 4 guys (all up and comers), that would keep me semi interested and would watch some games if I'm not doing anything.
Speedy isn't one of them only because this is only his 2nd year, but he's my next guy up over Jones & Urgo.

Yeah I know this is Urgo's first year so him and Speedy are similar, but Urgo took over a good Fordham team. Was Hofstra any good before Speedy?

So before you have all the facts you give Urgo extra credit for keeping a good team good for just one year? How does that even make sense? This post has got home drunk written all over it.

Urgo wasn't one of the 4 names I had on my list, maybe you just assumed he was.

Think what you want though, I don't really care.
