Is Nate Oates serious with this? Wrong place? What was he doing having a gun let alone brining it:

Alabama coach Nate Oats said Tuesday that Miller is “not in any trouble” as a result of his alleged involvement.

“We knew about that. Can’t control everything everybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. College kids are out, Brandon hasn’t been in any type of trouble nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time,” Oats said.

Just lost respect for Nate Oates. How he can fix his mouth to say some shit like this is beyond me, SMFH. You give a gun to someone who uses it to kill a young woman, you are an accessory to murder. Praying for the young lady and her loved ones.

As to the gun and Miller, he may not have broken any laws in Alabama--no background checks or permits needed in a private transaction and if he had a carry permit it is he can carry loaded gun in his car. While we may not understand the laws of other states, some have what would consider weird ideas as the guns; Texas is considering legis lation to allow "toddlers" to carry a loaded gun. Not justifing what Miller did but........it does show a a lack of maturity and poor judgment as to his actions.

Understand the follies that being a twitter or message board lawyer can bring, but I saw something that said the reason he wasn't charged as an accessory is because the way the Alabama law is written says that he's only an accessory if they can prove he had known the gun would be used to commit a murder.

Be very surprised if Oates doesn't walk back those comments very soon.

If Brandon Miller was at a party minding his own business and somewhere at the party this happened and Miller had nothing to do with it that you can argue wrong place.

Bringing a gun to the person who used it to shoot the victim is not wrong place.

If Oates or ANYONE in the Alabama athletic department had any shame there would be a retraction of that statement, an apology, and suspensions pending real investigations. But, its the SEC and Alabama so it might as well be the wild west. Most of the time it just results in cheating in a sporting event, but this time it cost someone their life and they have the never to be flippant about it.

NYers need to sit out discussions of laws in other states. Fix yer stuff first.

Given that this is the Deep South, I would be interested in seeing when that law was written, and what they were really trying to accomplish. But I digress. Haven't seen any updated word on suspension. Can you legitimately continue to play the kid who brought the gun?

Let's forget for a minute whether Miller can be charged as an accessory under Alabama law. Regardless, he clearly showed awful judgment in a situation that resulted in the death of a young woman. As Fordham & LJSA say, how can you can you play this kid right now? The idea that it should be considered normal that college kids bring loaded guns to games where partying will clearly be going on should be alarming, I don't give a fu*k what state you are from. Just nuts.

I’d say the same to you. Despite some stuff that needs to be fixed, In NY this could be charged as an accessory. Someone doesn’t call you and tell you to bring them your gun unless that person is expecting to use it. If it was s defense, remove your self from the situation instead of having someone bring you a heater which actually now potentially puts them in the same predicament you are claiming self defense from.

I am a very pro second amendment New Yorker (yes we exist).

But this is at the very minimum an absolutely idiotic thing to do. Bet he wouldn’t give the guy the keys to his car.
