Around College Basketball

Iowa State with a nice win at TCU today. 12-2 on the season and 3-0 in conference. Coach gets the most out of his talent there it seems.

He's very good and plays a fun style. I remember there being some speculation that he was the real reason for the success of Hoiberg's teams.

Your last sentence, I'm not fully sure that's the case, but I could be incorrect. My evidence of this is the last coaching search. It didn't seem like we had many good options at all. That could have just been the incompetence of the administration/search committee, but the list of names we were presented with was very underwhelming.

The last coaching search was run by a bunch of idiots who Repole rightfully called out. That search should have started way before seasons end and potential candidates lined up. By the time Mullin left the entire process was a shit show led by the esteemed Mike Cragg. Ask yourself this, how many other offers did Arkansas fired Mike Anderson have?

How do you really feel about the administration, Cragg and Anderson? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

It was. Without a doubt. But I feel like there are a lot of factors to that. First yes the search itself just did not seem like it had a lot of logic behind it in the opening stages. Felt like we were just considering whatever mid major coach had just had a good ncaa tournament.

Then the Repole interview happened and it started to feel like a very tumultuous situation that i bet concerned a lot of potential coaches out there.

That whole situation just left a stink on that whole search I feel like. I would like another shot at a coaching search this offseason I bet we could attract some solid names.

I am not saying we are gonna like start pouching ACC/SEC/B10 coaches or anything like that. But I feel like we are a capable of a better search than we showed last time
Sorry Jack, being the basketball coach at a school known for football is not a bad thing and I donā€™t know why people think it is. You can still get rabid fans and sellouts, great facilities and can use the football team as a recruitin weekend tool.

Pikiell has done an exceptional job but for the poster who said ā€œanother one we missed out onā€, can you imagine the alarms that would have gone off on this Board if we hired a guy from Stony Brook to be our head coach!!! And this would not be a lateral move for him but a step down.

This is not a desirable big time job and our coaching searches going back to Franā€˜s hire has shown that. The last one absolutely was a fiasco but interest from a Big Five school to come here was nil but Repoleā€™s interview scared off no one as we had already been turned down by everyone we reached out to. We ā€œluckedā€ into Anderson immediately afterwards.

Based on where he is and available options, we might get a Pitino, but to think we are going to poach some top caliber coach from a good successful program unless he is taking heat fro the fans and administration does not at this time seem feasable.

Now if you get some big money donors willing to assist in upgradesā€¦

No ones saying being a coach at a football school is a bad thing.

I am just making the point that there are perks to being an SJU coach that I think people ignore because we are so collectively down on the program right now. Yes its a rough time, but yes there are still perks to being a coach of this team. Thats all I was saying

The current board and Cragg have hired a coach who may or may not be dismissed at years end and if he is not let go it will be because they gave him an extension for not making the NCAA tournament.
In addition to those two blunders they managed to cut ties with the one person who may have been willing to help out the program financially which is in dire shape money wise.
How can anybody have confidence that the board or Cragg will make decisions that benefit the program? The only hope is that Father Shanley ignores their input and makes his decision as to the future of the program.

Great post. Mike Cragg is still under the illusion that ā€œfunā€ half time shows will bring out the fans even as attendance is dropping significantly. Could it be cause they are not winning? Duhhhhh If the assortment of beer canā€™t get fans in the seats, nothing but a winner will.
