Around College Basketball (non-Big East) 2018/19
Just read in today's paper, on a night with school open and a cold but clear night the attendance at Hofstra playing at Manhattan was 602.
Has interest in metropolitan NY for college basketball ever been worse?
We had a good crowd at MSG and Carnesecca Arena has been great for the most part. Don’t throw that bad juju on us.

SJU grad 13 posts that SJU shouldn't be grouped with the other metro teams re attendance and he is right but we still don't get 5,000 at CA until the big east games and drawing ten thousand at MSG last Sunday probably means SJU sold six thousand tickets and the three other teams , all locals sold about four thousand.
While SJU is nowhere near as bad as other metro schools there is no interest in college basketball in this area. When you consider the number of students and the number of alumni in the area of the local schools I'd call it pathetic.

This town( trip-state area) is a pro sports town. SJU and SHU as well as Rutgers football need to have outstanding seasons to get publicity and high level attendance. SJU is probably the strongest when they are successful.

True, but 5,000+ at CA or 10,000+ at MSG is still considerably more than 600 fans.

Easily. The average sports fan in NJ has no clue the Hall has gone to three straight tourneys.

My posts about attendance at local schools games was aimed at the other locals, not SJU. Stoney Brook and Hofstra have built multi million dollar arenas and both have substantial student bodies on campus, alumni in the area and very reasonable prices and still struggle to draw.
I know NYC is a pro town but still.

I agree with you. The non big east basketball schools the area have not drawn for a very long time, even with new facilities. They get very little if any TV or news exposure. The metro area has too many other events and activities that capture their attention.

Wow those attendance figures really are abysmal. Almost all the locals in the 1,000+ category.

If you think we are poorly coached, you won’t believe your eyes watching LSU here down the stretch. Downright pathetic offense

Sampson can cheat & coach, but Wade can only cheat.

The Cuse goes down at home to Old Dominon. They were 25.We will move ahead of them with a win against Wagner. Do we root for Rutgers or SH? We did beat Rutgers

But we play SH at least twice so SOS more affected by them.

Pikiell must be super nice to the media to get all the praise he does for losing all the time.

Are there 2 former SJU coaches on the staff at Kansas ? Some pretty bad decisions by Kansas players near the end of game .

Norm of course is an Assistant and Fred Quartlebaum is Director of Development or something.

Damn Andy Enfield can't coach a lick. He is a really good recruiter but under achieves every year at USC. How are they 6-4 (6-5 after this game) with that much talent. His substitution patterns are horrible too, make a good play and he takes you out the game. On the other hand Lon Kruger is legit, the man can coach. They look better this year without Trae Young dominating the ball. Derryck Thornton has been the best player on the floor for them and he wont leave him in the game. Then he brings in a kid who cant bring the ball up the court against the OU press, gets it stolen and gives up a layup and then he calls a timeout.
