Around College Basketball (non-Big East) 2018/19
Please stop taunting the parents of our former players. Tariq is a graduate and calling his father a liar is uncalled for.

This is my fourth post on the issue, because some moderator has deleted the first three without an explanation even though they didn't violate any forum rules.

Have the decency to messsge me if you want to take this down.
Hey Marillac,

I did not take down or delete any of your posts but respectfully request that if you have a problem with "redmannorth" or any of the other Moderators that you not post and repost your complaint on the public site but rather address your concerns to Paul.

Thanks.

You can believe his fathers tweets all you want but I prefer to live in a world of facts. Do you think his father is going to admit he might have made a mistake ? I don’t. First we heard he has gained 25 pounds of muscle shortly after joining TT , but that was just crap, he is the same string bean he was at SJU. The facts are minutes, ppg, rpg are all down and he is not a focal point of their offence. TT is 15-3 with 2 losses in a row and we are 15-4. Do you see a huge difference ? I don’t. Will they be ranked tomorrow , I don’t know but a good chance they may not be. I do know how that with Tariq we would have a minimum of 2 more wins and be ranked higher than TT.
Best of continued luck to Tariq.
While still thin looking Tariq does look a bit thicker in the arms and upper body. remember you are stretching 25 lbs. over nearly 7' not 5'8". :)

Agree with Marillac on this. I do not know of another D1 school where bad feedback from players' families has done as much damage as has occurred at STJ. It was player family feedback to administration that contributed to Fran F's departure and lots of decision making after that has been affected by STJ being called racist because some of Fran's behavior was viewed as abusive through a black-white lens. Treat players and their families with respect, including not tolerating self-destructive or criminal behavior by players.

With LJ and Heron chewing up available shots, how miserable would Renard have been had Owens stayed? I'd say he is thrilled because Owens here would be just another 6'10 non rebounding three point shooting forward who at best would be our 6th best option for points.

Fran orchestrated his own firing on day 1 when he announced his staff of assistants without consulting Ed Manetta, who wanted QV friend Tom Pecora on board. From then it was only a matter of time. The real reason was that while under contract to SJU, Fran solicited an offer from New Mexico (St?) presented to SJU admin to get a better deal. They fired him and then leaked the stories about harsh exchanges with parents and dropped pants.

Arizona State was alleged offer, not New Mexico, where he later wound up.

Beast and Paultz, no argument about what Fran did. The side of it that I'm referring to in which Fran was perceived as racist I heard independently from folks in the NYC basketball community. Sometimes the perception shapes or becomes the reality, including influence on the next coaching hire.

The story I remember was that a mother of a player complained to him that her son wasn't playing enough (which is a crazy thing for a parent to do at the college level, any level really). He in no uncertain terms asked her if she watched his play because he didn't deserve to play any more than he did. The other of course was when he flew into a rage allegedly and challenged his team's manhood, dropping his pants completely and charging that his guys had none of these.

I don't know if that translated into racism but some really off based stories begin to circulate around hs and aau gyms.

FF just wasn't ready for the job. He pressed himself and everyone way too hard. I recall a pretty damaging article in Newsday that went into things that went beyond parents & playing time. I found this one in the Daily News. Let's not minimize it by recalling it as parents complaining about playing time. One kid getting the abusive treatment was from out of state and away from a very sick parent. I am sure FF learned from it. None of us are perfect people.

Lets also not forget the implosion in New Mexico too. He's very well suited to TV and I like him doing our games.

A former player who reads this site and was on the team knows what led to FF's self destruction and firing. It had nothing to do with pants, Tom Pecora or Arizona State.

Does it have to do with capris, Tom Selick or Fresno State?

I grabbed this from Twitter:

“The switching revolution hasn't quite hit college basketball like the NBA... But Krzyzewski switching ALL screens on Saturday and now Self switching all ball screens here in the 2nd half against Iowa State is an interesting development”.

Guess Mullin and staff are reinventing college basketball and HOF coaches are taking notice :)

I don't remember Martelli being a SJU candidate, from the Daily News article it seems like he was a serious one.

Per 247 Sports
Vanderbilt freshman and prized recruit Darius Garland has withdrawn from school to begin preparation for the 2019 NBA Draft, his father tells 247Sports.
Garland, a native of Nashville (Tenn.), had a season ending injury to his knee two minutes into the fifth game of his college career. Garland had surgery on Nov. 26 on repair the meniscus in his left knee.

Georgia Tech up on ND by 7 at home with 3:45 left.

Bowling Green up 16 on the road looking for its 10th straight win!

Rutgers beat Nebraska yesterday.

Georgia Tech holds on to beat ND and improve to 3-3 in the ACC.

Bowling Green wins by 13 as well.

It's very possible VCU, Ga Tech, Rutgers, and Bowling Green end up netting us one Quad 1 vicotry and 3 Quad 2 victories.

So to summarize we need to win more Big East games rather than lose more Big East games or we're screwed.

SJU is 15-4 and projected to be a 10th seed even with those wins. You are grasping at straws if you think the committee thinks those wins (with a maybe on VCU) are anything but mediocre.
