Around College Basketball 2019/20 Season
According to the CDC as of 7/4/20, 142 people (91 male, 51 female) between the ages of 15-24 died of Covid related illness, of the total 113,000 COVID deaths (no indication of the factor of underlying conditions). That is 0.0012% of the total deaths. The ethical decision that has to be made is whether these statistics are acceptable to play basketball. Also need to consider the older coaches and staff who may be vulnerable. Not an easy decision for anyone.
I think that should be 0.12%. I Could be wrong.

See I'm not sure people understand this at all. It's not the matter of young people getting it and not dying. It's young people getting it and spreading it to the older at risk people, who are the ones dying. Where do you think the at risk population is getting it from?
Exactly. Another huge concern extends beyond deaths. There is growing evidence of long term issues relating to this virus. Serious lung scarring, heart issues, etc. So I wouldn’t use death rate as a sole determining factor here.

Throw in the fact many legendary coaches in NCAA are seniors and in the at risk population. So a young player gets it and survives, but in the process passes it on to his coach who dies. What's the risk right?

Understood, this is why I mentioned that the coaches and staff are vulnerable. Also, with screaming fan/without screaming fans? Big picture, there are many things to consider. Bottom line IMHO, vaccine or proven therapeutics are the only answer.

If the number was 113,000 on 7/4 there is a problem that is growing. Today ONE WEEK LATER, the number of deaths is 134,000 which is around an 18% increase which is scary. Ergo the 7/4 number is wrong or the the %ages used in the discussion are wrong. Regardless the numbers are growing not abating; over the last 14 days the number of daily deaths countrywide are UP 13%.
I agree with the comments regarding long term effects which people who have "recovered" from Covid have described in interviews and it is not good.

The 113,000 is incorrect. However, there is no question the number continues to accelerate:

For all you fact checkers my numbers were directly from the CDC website. Nothing is incorrect or wrong with the numbers nor the percentages I posted. I was merely trying to make a point. I know what the infection and death numbers are today, however, they do not have them (or I couldn't find them) by age group. The numbers are growing for multiple reasons, more testing, spread, etc. There are hundreds of thousands of people who have been infected and don't even know it. Besides the fact that a good number of the deaths that have been reporting have NEVER been tested for Covid....but that's another story.

Sad to say, but the CDC has been compromised in its policies and its monitoring of Covid data. 'See' Trump sidelines Dr. Fauci' stories.
Hence the CDC's 'totals' are lower than other recognized health orgs tracking this virus. Its totals cite about 200,000 fewer cases and ~4,000 fewer deaths than totals other respected health orgs. have reported.
And, according to Dr. Fauci's comments a few weeks ago, we've likely had 10x the number of cases of Covid than have been reported--so these #'s are 'distorted' in both metrics.
Also, Florida recently reported ~5,000 deaths from 'pneumonia', >5x the # of pneumonia deaths reported in that state on average over a recent 6-yr period.
