Around College Basketball 2019/20 Season

This is really, really scary because Stanford has a shit ton of money and a shit ton of generous millionaire and billionaire alumni. And I have firsthand knowledge that they've been generous in the past with a lot of the sports listed there.
I just watched PTI. They mentioned the fact that Stanford has the 3rd highest endowment in the nation only behind Harvard and Yale. While most schools have 18-24 sports, Stanford was supporting 36 sports for many, many years.
In the grand scheme of things not the end of the world.
However, I truly feel terrible for these kids and coaches who have spent a lifetime practicing and perfecting their skills in these low profile, non - glamour sports, where they are truly student athletes and at a great academic institution. If Stanford, with a huge endowment is cutting sports, I fear what will occur at the other 99% of Division 1 Schools that have no where near the endowment that Stanford does. Terrible times coming for universities.
Agree on impact to athletes-

The Big Ten is expected to announce today that it will go with a conference-only football schedule for this fall, a person with direct knowledge situation tells @TheAthleticCFB.

ACC football also expected to play conference-only games, sources told @Stadium. Last month, ACC commish John Swofford told @Stadium if Power 5 schools played conference-only schedules that ACC would assist Notre Dame with as many games as it needed
If non-conference ends up getting cancelled and only conference games are played in January, what does that mean for the Big East in regards to NET/bids? We better receive the same respect as the P5 given we have been a top 3/4 league for the past 5 years.

Something awesome would be if we used last year's OOC NET. The Big East and St. John's would be extremely strong again. Doubt that'd happen though as some conferences (such as the ACC) would object.
Something I posted a few days ago. Seems this is a very possible scenario...

I don't see how using stats from last year is credible with so many variables like coaches, players and just the fact that each year should stand on it's own and not effect the following.

I agree, but if everyone only plays conference games then how could the Big East compare to the Horizon, for instance? I highly doubt last year's stats will be used, but there needs to be some sort of baseline stat for NET.

If not, then the only alternative I think would be something like awarding each Power conference 50% of teams into the Dance. What would that mean for the Big East? We are considered a Power conference but not officially. What about the A10, American, or WCC? See where I'm going with this?

I'd like to think Fox and MSG would give us a strong voice in regards to getting the proper respect/bids. Also, our challenges with 3 Power conferences (including P12).

_________

Stanford men have had a long and proud rowing program that has been a multi year competitor in the Grand Finals at IRAs.
They just lured a guy away from Northeastern last year to take over the program too. I just worked on a piece about him, so the people I work for didn't even know what was coming down the pike.

Coach's consecutive season winning streak will be in serious jeopardy if we go to conference only games for 20/21.

What do base your dislike of coach Anderson on?
Who is your ideal candidate?

If this thing isn't dying with hot weather, not sure how anyone thinks pushing the season deep into flu season is going to work.

There has been talk of a vaccine being ready by year end. Of course it may not be ready and many would be reluctant to be first to take it.

According to the CDC as of 7/4/20, 142 people (91 male, 51 female) between the ages of 15-24 died of Covid related illness, of the total 113,000 COVID deaths (no indication of the factor of underlying conditions). That is 0.0012% of the total deaths. The ethical decision that has to be made is whether these statistics are acceptable to play basketball. Also need to consider the older coaches and staff who may be vulnerable. Not an easy decision for anyone.

Viruses don't die.....they mutate and weaken. Everyone has been guessing about this virus from Fauci to Trump to the WHO. The whole "weather" line is a line of BS. Brazil is never cold and always warm. Check their stats.
If classes are in session then players need to play........even without fans. This bullshit is more about TV dollars than concern for the kids.

So let's assume that 80 percent of the142 younger deaths had asthma or diabetes. Should 0.0005% EVER decide closure of ANYTHING?

See I'm not sure people understand this at all. It's not the matter of young people getting it and not dying. It's young people getting it and spreading it to the older at risk people, who are the ones dying. Where do you think the at risk population is getting it from?
