Doesn't it figure Fox's money takes a big leadership role in making these decisions?

When you factor that in it's not a bad deal I think.

So we lose maybe 2.2 million each for leaving a year early.

But how much more does the new tv deal pay us per year ? Isnt it like 1.5 or 2 million more per year ? So in essence each school might be getting to buy the Big East name for maybe a half a million dollars.

I actually like that deal

but.............

The Big East office will then take an operating cost fee of another $5 million, which will reduce the total to 72 million, which will then be divided evenly between Cincinnati, UConn and South Florida.

Yeah but that's coming off the net figure to the remaining schools and not costing us anything if I'm understanding it correctly

Isn't it still 24M per school?

yes but without the big east office fee they'd be getting close to 26million.

It looks like even if we stayed another year then they'd still be getting something like 21million per the 3 schools. That we couldnt have done anything about it sounds like

That's a hell of a lot of money to pay for the name.

Its more paying to get out early. I agree on the name front and said that from the beginning.

But what' it really costing us to leave after this season ? It looks like it's only going to cost each school maybe a half million net to our bottom line when you factor in us getting higher tv revenue immediately.

But if you have a choice as A.D to stay another year in the conference another year with less tv revenue but get a bigger piece of exit fees or leave a year early and get higher tv revenue and the Big East conference name and the net cost to you is about 500k per school which woud you do ?

Personally I want the conference name and 500k per school doesnt seem like a bad figure

@McMurphyESPN: Catholic 7 schools will keep Big East name, expect to begin new league this fall, sources tell @ESPN
------
Also reporting Butler and Xavier may be the only teams added for 2013-2014 season with Dayton, St Louis and Creighton joining the following season.

The name? Big East for a 12 school league with 7 teams based in the Midwest is ... Well, the schools are east of Tokyo.

LOL

I don't see the point of leaving it at an uneven 9 teams. My only guess is that they're having a hard time deciding between SLU, Dayton, VCU and Creighton.

Either way, I'd love for them to start the new league in '13. Let's start some 'Big East' chants at MSG during the BE tourney.

St. Louis is a very important addition because it is a program with great facilities and on the rise. It is also a great sports city and a media hub.
There is no doubt this will be a 12 team Big East by 2014 per Fox $$ initiatives.

It's also another Catholic school, Jesuit, as is Xavier and Creighton. Since most Catholic schools cannot afford big time college football, it kind of fits, but I'm sure that being a Catholic school makes them even more attractive to the core group. It's kind of becoming the next level CHSAA, a CCAA.
St Louis is a great campus and program. My niece is an alumnus and I have been to games at the arena.
Great program on the rise. We need them in New BE!!!!

I agree the name is very important! In the short term and definitely in the long term we will receive more name recognition and money.
We sure as heck do not want to be in the Big "whatever the heck it will be." conference with teams all over the place.
I hope the three schools enjoy the short term paycheck with the C7 leaving. They will not match that $ number in the future.

Really not fair that UConn gets a windfall just because they were not wanted by any other conference. It's not like they did not try to get out numerous times. SJU and the rest of the Catholic 7 should get a piece of the exit fees that all the schools that wrecked the league were responsible for. The Catholic 7 did not cause the downfall, they left after the league no longer existed. Pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered, if UConn, Cincy etc. blackmail the C7 too much despite their own wandering eyes, their programs will have to deal with karma down the line.

I just want to put those teams in our rear view mirrors, so we can live the rest of our lives.

Does anyone agree with me that the Big East name is tarnished and not worth paying a whole lot of money to retain?

If the C7 can retain Madison Square Garden then let Houston, SMU, Central Florida, south Florida and their gang keep the Big East name and the C7 take a greater percent of the pooled money.

Do the additions to the C7 pay entry fees, after the name and MSG issues are resolved, and does that offset the per school cost to the C7?

no...it's the equivalent of cadillac looking for a name change.

In response to Otis, I feel that the Big East brand has little to no value to the football conference. While the brand is somewhat diminished by the recent instability and the loss of several of its top programs, it is still a valuable basketball brand. After all the dust settles, high school kids will still talk about the allure of "playing in the Big East."

Remember, when the Big East was formed, it was a coming together of a group of decent basketball programs, with varying levels of success, that had a common mission or goal. Hopefully, that can be replicated.

I know a lot of you on this board do not respect this guy. He has had some information in the past that has panned out. But just more food for thought:

Fox telling C7/Bigeast? they will pay them nearly 4 million per school if ND joins as a permanent member. You were right DudeofWV. It's on!

Again I would take them in all sports and allow their football to be truly "independent" as they want it. My fear is that as realignment continues they may be forced to be in a conference and we lose the b'ball team. My question is if this is true, Is it worth that risk?
