All Realignment Talk Here

I spoke recently to one of the Catholic 7 Athletic Directors –
“We’re looking for quality, not necessarily quantity as we build this
new league,” he said.

Thats Vin Parise who has called some of our games?

Good catch.
Interesting that the PC people up here say 10 is the magic # of the AD's.
Fox however wants 12.

I've heard 10 too. They really like the idea of lights out knockout non conf schedule with home and home. 12 only if the extra 2 are equal to a big non conf game that would be sacrificed.

**** I would only go 12 teams if we can get Zags in somehow someway.

It is all about television revenue and if the networks want 12 teams......that will be the number.
Just as ESPN influenced the membership of the new Big East/ACC, so will will FOX or whomever. If it were solely about quality and not quantity, schools like Providence, DePaul and St. John's would have been on the outside looking in.

Yes of course STJ would have been out. How could I forget such an obvious point.

Nice of you to agree with my sarcasim but the gap between those programs and the rest of the Big East the past dozen years has been as wide as the gap in Jakarr's teeth.

Sju is quickly closing the gap.

Interesting comment by Coach Lavin on most recent Redmen report...on the topic of the new conference he mentioned that they could invite 3, 5 or even 7 teams

The only thing interesting is that numerical progression by 2 (3,5,7) is as believable as his projection that Sanchez would be eligible back in November in 7-10 days.

This year Marquette, Butler, and Georgetown would definitely be in.
VCU, Gonzaga, or Creighton would be in if they got invited to the new conference. All 3 are ranked.

And you could make an argument SJU and Villanova would be bubble teams.

So, yea, 7 is crazy. But 4 or 5 bids is a normal expectation. And that's pretty good for a 10 or 12 team league.

Actually if SJ signs Lawrence and all our guys come back (and of course GIFT!), we can kick some ass next year with depth and experience and send Syracuse, Louisville, ND and Rutgers a fond farewell.

Can't wait for 1 yr worth of games with SMU and Houston
So pumped!

I am actually happy for our players C Jones, Harrison and Branch. They are from those metropolitan areas and it means a lot to them and their families if the games are played in Texas.

Agree that it will stink for next year, but there are still some good teams there. Plus, it's so late in the game now. A lot of the fall sports will probably be releasing there schedules soon.

_________

I'm sure Houston and SMU are as pumped about games with Seton Hall and DePaul.

Marquette athletic director endorses Butler for new league

As a former player and lawyer, Williams said he has been called to testify about head injuries in lawsuits against the NFL. He said some of his former college and pro teammates suffer from brain injury.

"The end result is not worth the end result of the game," Williams said. "We shouldn't be solely focused on the pursuit of football dollars. Football may not be around in its current form of prosperity.

Syracuse will already be gone this is the last year. The others will be though.

Unfortunately we will be playing them every year going forward.
