All Realignment Talk Here

Yeah, newsman but they have one foot out the door and would be gone quicker than you can say Jack Robinson if the opportunity arises.

Q: How many Big East teams remain from the first year the league began playing football in 1991?

A: One. Temple.

That, my friends, is exactly why the Big East should politely hand over its conference name to the breakaway hoops schools and start over. Because nothing in this current/future league iteration shouts Big East.
__________

The argument to made for the other side is the C7 are still members of a league called the Big East. They have decided they want to leave the Big East so why should they then be allowed to take the name with them.

A few additional comments that surfaced in many previous posts.

1. UCONN,CINN- ARE LEFT OUT of the C7 and no other conference seems interested in them so they likely stay in the "OLD BE," IF THAT LEAGUE RETAINS THE Big East name. Personally, I would not advocate playing them in BB on a regular basis. Also, I thought UCONN fans much more abusive/boring than Syracuse fans but, others may feel differently. Plus SJU PLAYING SU needs to be a part of both schools annual scheduling.

2. I wonder if Notre Dame would have stayed with the C7 if they knew it was going to exist? After all, they are going to only be a limited ACC team?

3.Xavier, Butler,St.Louis,Creighton are great BB schools. I'd rather see Dayton than VCU. Gonzaga would be a grand slam too but, unless another WestCoast team could be added, St. Mary's, it doesn't make logistical sense for anybody.

I would never play Rutgers again either. Let Seton Hall be their regular local rival.I think we should play ND EVERY YEAR TOO.Always in MSG.

One of my wishes almost happened. Its going to happen sooner than later

http://www.masslive.com/umassfootball/index.ssf/2013/01/umass_faculty_senate_motion_to.html

The Univ. of Massachusetts Faculty Senate by a 19-18 margin voted down a motion that would have called on the school's administration to "immediately consider" moving the school's football program back to the FCS after one year at the FBS level (MASSLIVE.com, 1/31).

After a season where they were 1-11 and averaged less than 11,000 fans in a 68,800 capacity Gilette stadium, one would think the taxpayers in Mass would have been more vocal considering the millions they are spending enlarging their Amherst stadium. Fools gold awaits many of the east coast football wanna bes.

Only a faculty vote. Means little.

Here is an interesting article about the $68 million in funds and the latest on the negotiations between the C7 and "Big East."

This part of the article should get the juices flowing.

A sample of questions the agreement asks of the Catholic 7:

“Would you be amenable to allowing the other group of schools to retain the Big East name under appropriate conditions?”

“Would you consider a change in format that might allow both groups to hold a shorter tournament at (Madison Square Garden), or would you consider other potential alternatives (such as alternating years with the other group at MSG)?”

1. I don't care whether the C7 retains the Big East name. I do however want the C7 to promptly adopt another name that does not carry a religious reference.

2. If the C7 members believe that they control MSG then I would tell them to go to hell unless they want to use MSG the weekend before the major college tournaments are held.

Andy Katz had the following to say during halftime of The Georgetown-Rutgers game:

Consensus that C7 schools will seperate in Fall 2014. Outside shot that it could happen in Fall of 2013

Legal Obstacles: $$$$ How much C7 pays or leaves behind.

Both sides want and covet BIG EAST name.

Expansion: C7 needs 10-12 teams. Zeroing in on Butler and Xavier. Others will come from Creighton, St. Louis, Dayton, VCU and Richmond.

I think having the Basketball-7 conference tournament at MSG is of the utmost importance. We know remaining Big Least Schools will fight like crazy to keep their conference tournament playing there. I think this is a topic that will not easily be resolved - unless they can somehow share MSG that week - as the CBS article suggests. I'm curious which conference MSG would prefer - the Basketball 7 or new Big Least? Probably the Basketball 7, but if MSG is tied up in a contract with the Big Least, there might not be anything the Basketball 7 can do about it. So then where does the Basketball 7 play their tournament? Barclays is tied up with A-10, right? If the New Big Least has MSG, and they don't want to work with us..... thoughts?

Not much new.

I know most posters know that I'm not thrilled much by the C7+ league. Butler and Xavier, should they come, will be very good adds. I agree with Joe3 that Creighton adds little. I hope they're not added. Understood that Creighton's Prez is a member of Marquette's BOD's so Marquette is plugging for them. Adding Creighton would almost mean St Louis gets added and St Louis is another school they doesn't get me excited. How about you guys? Dayton would be okay but do they bowl anyone over? Add that Xavier is said not to want to share Ohio with another team in the same conference and they're lobbying against Dayton. VCU would be a top choice but Georgetown doesn't want them and is pushing for Richmond which (again, MO) is a big yawn. They're #4 on the totem pole in Virginia behind UV, VaTECH and VCU. As I've mentioned before despite public utterances Georgetown, if they could find another spot for all their sports, would be gone from the C7 in a heartbeat.

If I could have my way and the league were to go to 10 I'd go for Butler, Xavier and VCU. If 12 schools, add Gonzaga and St. Mary's. Otherwise, this proposed league just doesn't do it for me.

Given the names mentioned at this point if Georgetown pulls enough weight to block VCU I'd be satisfied with just Butler and Xavier. Stop there. Go with a 9 school league. But I doubt FOX or CBS or whomever would go for it.

Good bets on expansion offers. Xavier, St. Louis, Dayton are Catholic, which would please the C7 Presidents.

it would appear you have a problem with the Jesuit Schools. At least Gonzaga got away without any recriminations and Fordham and Boston College avoided mention
