All Realignment Talk Here

No matter how this all shakes out, I'm proud of how the Catholic 7 cut and run from this mess. It was the only move for them to make and I truly believe it will work out well for us in the grand scheme of things.

I'm still wondering who we are targeting at this stage. The foregone conclusion has always been Xavier and Butler. Other potential candidates have been Temple, St. Louis, Creighton, Dayton, etc. Are they bold enough to make an offer to Gonzaga and St. Mary's? It would be a logistical nightmare, but would definitely improve the level of play. Is there an outsider that I haven't even thought of?

Would like to see the WCC strengthen their league from top to bottem and become a West Coast version of what the breakaway BE (I don't like the C7 monicker) is putting together. Then the two basketball leagues should schedule a regular out of conference schedule against each other. Yesterday's Butler-Gonzaga matchup is a good preview of what the two leagues could bring.

I would prefer to see both Butler and Gonzaga in the "New Big East"
Both teams have been mentioned as possible candidates
Imagine what a great league we'd have with Xavier, Butler and Gonzaga joining the "C7"
I would imagine that the plan would be to have 12 teams in the league

I just don't see Gonzaga as a realistic candidate. Logistically, basketball would be difficult enough. It would be so impractical for the other, non-revenue generating sports. Two very good basketball conferences that schedule games between them, without requiring the nightly grind of a west coast team playing against 11 eastern teams, makes more sense.

I'd like to see us add Xavier, Butler and either St.Louis/Dayton. Then when the ACC blows up Notre Dame will want in.

My pick is Butler to finish first in the new league. Great game vs tough Gonzaga team. Was Gonzaga also the team that got beat on buzzer beater by Dellavadova of St. Mary's this week? I believe so.

Funny how the new BE would be perfect for what ND wants. A place for aal of its other sports without any commitment from its football program. Now they are bound to 5 mediocred ACC pooponents each year.

I'm just goin out on a limb here but I think it's a foregone conclusion Notre Dame will want in if/when the ACC implodes and IMO the C7 would be stupid not to have them.

BK they probably will try. You make a good point.
The big question is does the 7 build on only BB schools or do they go after football schools.
My hope is that they stay true to form and keep it a BB conf. only

Any big time football school worth a grain of salt would want no part of a league featuring basketball
A school like Villanova, whiich plays I-AA football, is not a big time football school
Other schools that play I-AA football could join our new league and play football in a different conference

What was once called D1-AA football is now called FCS.
What was called D1-A is now called FBS.

Georgetown, Villanova and potential invitees Dayton and Richmond have football teams that play at the FCS level. None of these 4 schools have any present interest in moving their program to another level.

Georgetown & Villanova will join St.John's, Seton Hall, Providence, Marquette, and DePaul and 3 to 5 other schools as proud founding members of the league now referred to as the "C7" .

Didn't want to start a new thread but did want to invite you to join us talking about the C7 and Catholic hoops. We hope you'll take a look.

WOULD LIKE TO SEE NYU UPGRADE BB PROGRAM BACK TO DIV 1 AND JOIN C7

I would never in a million years want that, and I'm an NYU grad. They'd steal our "Come live in New York City" sales pitch, and it would be a lot more accurate, since people think Manhattan when they think NYC and not Jamaica, Queens.

I have to say I kind of feel sorry for a lot of the great younger Redmen.com STJ fans that never experienced the magic that was NYC in the 60s when NYU, Fordham, Manhattan College and even LIU brought local rivalries an excitement to a time when "the Big Indian" Joe Lapchick and SJU were national "Big Dogs". No Big East, just played everybody and the old MSG rocked and literally shook from the noise and nosebleed ticket holders died from the smoke wafting up and you had to concentrate on the game from all the betting going on around you. The streets and bars were filled with SJU fans. A travesty by STJ administration for so many decades that many fans gave up and it shows. Hopefully STJ will not burn bridges and will schedule the usual teams we detest but fill up the seats and get the Dukes, UCLAs etc. in and again whip their arses once again. If Lavin does not bring it back, it's all she wrote. Even Mike Jarvis created excitement for a NYC and fans looking for a winner. It can be done! NYC is not Storrs Conn. and UCONN. Too many things for fans to do other than "Wait For Godot"
