All Realignment Talk Here

Also, I think it would behoove us to sit down with G'Town, UConn, Nova, etc. and try to form an alliance (if there's any grain of loyalty left). When the ACC comes knocking for one of them they can say we will only join if you take a few of our old Big East rivals. This would give SJ the leverage we don't have at the moment. We need our more powerful friends to help get us in. Other teams have packaged up, so why can't we?

The only scenarios I see are the BBall only schools in the Big East merging with either the A-10 or West Coast Conference, or, I could see in the end, the ACC and the Big 10 gobbling up the BBall only schools with Depaul and Marquette going Big 10 and St. Johns, Georgetown, Villanova going ACC. Something like that. Who Knows? But those are the best case scenarios for St. Johns.

joe3, it's time to look at the glass half full.
it is what it is.
The big hits are syracuse and yukon.
bc, va. tech, miami, pitt, nd, rutgers, tcu, are replaceable.
memphis and temple are a good beginning.
we need to make this the best conference attainable.
the B1G and big 8 are all about football.
sec is right there with them, with the pac 12 close behind.
the acc is the only "basketball" conference out there.
If we can consistently be the 2nd best hoops conference, which i believe is conceivable, we will survive nicely.

and lets not forget, Big East was not always better than ACC..it developed over time...replacement teams will eventually reap benefits of Big East membership (which made Pitt the program it has become) and Big East can rise again

IMO, and this is not a stretch by any means, the key to a "new" Big East is St. John's.

If Steve can make us a top tier team, this is goingto give the conference a huge shot in the arm.

As we all know and appreciate, one of the primary reasons that the Big East took off like a rocket was because St. John's had a fellow named Mullin and had a team that became THE media darling of New York.

It's one thing to lose recruiting battles to Syracuse and UConn when they are/were conf. foes, it will be another when they are in The ACC.

It is also imperative for all of us to do our part to be sure that when we play at MSG that The Garden does not look like a sea of people disguised as empty seats.

If we want to compete against the ACC, and anyone else for that matter, we MUST start to fill up the world's most famous arena when we play.

Memphis and Temple have fine traditions but they aren't going to let anyone forget about Syracuse and UConn.

Dominoes starting to fall once again.

I think that UCONN to the ACC is next, along with Georgetown in basketball only. Louisville almost certainly ends up elsewhere as well.

The only way I see St. John's ending up in the ACC is if they take us and Villanova (in addition to Georgetown) to make an 18 team basketball league that ends up killing the Big East for good.

Big 10 did this to lock up the D.C. and New York market.

It will be interesting to see how the ACC responds. Do they decide that they are first and foremost a basketball conference?

On a side note, it's nice to see the ACC blindsided for once. I'd love to see the SEC try to penetrate the heart of ACC country and steal N.C. State and Va. Tech.

Although football is the driving force behind all of this, I think that the ACC realizes that they are and will remain the weakest of the BCS football conferences. The one area of advantage is that they were perennially the best basketball conf. I think they try to solidify this advantage by putting an end to the Big East once and for all by going after Georgetown and St Johns along with Uconn.

To allow a BE with a core of STJ, G-Town, and Nova to continue to exist still represents a perennial threat to ACC basketball supremacy

I think that Florida State has one foot out the door already, and I think Clemson could leave as well. But in this climate, anything is possible.

i agree....i think florida state will join the big 12 and that may push clemson out as well.....i would love to see the acc picked apart.....karma!

So would I. But the problem is they will continue to take the best BE FB/BB schools. Like Moose said, time to give serious thaught to all BB conference.

They are running out of football teams to steal. If they get picked apart by the Big 12 and SEC, they won't be turning to crappy Conference USA schools like the Big East did.

ACC is not out of the woods yet. I'm fully expecting FSU to jump at the first opportunity.

DC, maybe.
But NYC? There are probably more Michigan fans in NYC than Rutger fans.

Will be interesting to see if Rutgers beats Louisville and goes to the Orange Bowl.

They would then have to play FSU which could be very ugly.
