All Realignment Talk Here

take a deep breath and think about it.

college sports ratings aren't big city market driven. it's the opposite. new yorkers aren't staying home to watch a bad or mediocre basketball team battle another mediocrity. they're not. they never have. they never will. the same holds true in other major cities. there are too many choices.

students in places such as durham, ann arbor, south bend, syracuse...and their alums stay home and watch no matter how badly their teams are doing.

it's delusional to think a small league made up of "big city" teams will bring in big network bucks. there's too much competition from true big time college basketball programs...and from the pros.

the pollyanna approach the "new big east" athletic directors are selling the fan base does no more than keep them at their comfort levels.

to go from the most powerful basketball conference in the nation to another atlantic 10 sickens me. it's the equivalent of ucla hiring norm roberts after john wooden retired. i know the majority here would have supported that move...as you're supporting the softening of the basketball conference under the guise that miracles happen.

Newsman, you have made this point often and I tend to agree, but what choice do they have. The ship was sinking. A hybrid league could end up much like the present Big East. UCONN could be an answer but are they waiting for the ACC?

So the 500 Million 12 year offer from Fox Sports is pure fiction?

Referring to the new Big East conference as "another A-10" tells me that you have no idea what you're talking about. The A-10 is a 2 bid league...maybe 3 on a good year. The new Big East with Xavier, Butler, G'Town, Nova, Marquette, SJ, Prov, SH, DePaul is likely a 5 bid league with maybe 6 on a great year. 4-5 should be standard, but if SJ, Providence, and Seton Hall really step up which is very possible, we are talking a terrific conference. We have Lavin now and can recruit with some of the best in the nation, we have tons of talent like never before and have knocked off Duke, Pitt, ND, Cincy 2x, Nova (when they were all ranked). Providence just got 2 of the best recruits in the nation and added another top 100. This is unchartered territory for them in a positive way. Seton Hall has lost a lot of players, but they seem to stay tough no matter who they have since they were ranked last year. Nova will be fine...they are getting themselves back together already and you know Wright will bring in a top recruiting class soon. DePaul might be the only team I can't really say is going to be any different, but they can still beat good teams every once in a while.

not "pure" fiction...but if you think the powers at fox (who are great at making money) plan to hand over five million dollars per team per year based on a "catholic seven or whatever", i have a boatload of psychedelics waiting at a pier in bayonne to sell you. i better guard my stash, a few of you are tripping already. somebody better read the fine print, that's all i'll say about that..

if fox does get involved, and they may, i guarantee they'll come up with something more creative than a crappy league that'll compete with he atlantic 10. and, joe3...i don't mean we'll morph into the atlantic 10 in five minutes. five years is more like it...

moose, i understand why and support the seven basketball teams that opted out of the conference. it was a no brainer. i'm just hoping we're not surfing on a turd that's spinning down the toilet.

WHo would leak such a $number to the media? Not Fox sports, that is for sure! The C7 have hired a PR firm to champion their future. Without an official conference, recognized by the NCAA, the C7 have nothing to negotiate until they are released from their BE affiliation and obligations and have a defined market which is all that matters in television ad revenue.

12 team league with 2 divisions. Could home and away the 5 teams in division and one game a year with 6 teams in other division which equals 16 conference games. This should be an option. Keep SJU Georgetown Villanova SH Providence in one division.

That's the best way to do it with 12 for sure.

"Fox Sports made an initial offer of $500 million over 12 years, sources told Rovell. Fox is set to launch the Fox Sports 1 channel in August, replacing Speed, a motorsports channel owned by the network. Fox is scheduled to meet with parties representing the “Catholic 7” on Wednesday in New York, sources told Rovell."

your right sources are just "hear say" per say, but when you add the Butlers and others we are talking about this is a good basketball league. Is it the Big East as currently constituted,. no, but looking at our other options it is a great opportunity.

Have you considered that they may have to overpay and be aggressive because they are a brand new network trying to get national recognition? For all we know, ESPN will fight them tooth and nail and we have ourselves a bidding war.

Thank goodness we're gone.

The remaining Big East athletic directors will meet in Dallas on Jan. 11 to discuss their latest moves, including the update on the television negotiations. Tulsa and UMass have been discussed as possible additions if the Big East decides to expand, according to multiple sources. Rice and Southern Miss were also tossed around.

Tulsa, Rice, So Miss, SMU, Houston, SDST, Memphis, etc. etc. may be BIG but not EAST! LMAO!

It might be easier if UConn, Cincy, Temple, and South Florida join C-USA as opposed to bringing all of them over to the BE.

The MWC is exploring expanding to include Houston and SMU, so if those schools are afraid of being in C-USA part 2 and bail, there may be a few seasons where UConn and Cincy are stuck with just utter crap.

And hopefully in no way, shape, matter, or form does SJU ever schedule Uconn and Cincy. Let them become wastelands..

"And hopefully in no way, shape, matter, or form does SJU ever schedule Uconn and Cincy. Let them become wastelands."

I know there is much debate on this board about whether to schedule Big East traitors. For the record, neither UConn or Cincy left yet, even if both desire to do so. But beyond that, I'd like to keep Cincy around on the schedule. For starters, we seem to get quality wins when they appear on the calendar! Secondly, just as a fan of basketball, love how tight their games always are, even if somewhat ugly in the process. They have an under-appreciated basketball history. And they are seemingly always in the running for similar recruits as us. I just think it would be cool schedule some home-and-homes with them, as well as Dukes and the like. I do not quite feel as sweet regarding a similar setup for Cuse or UConn, just cause. :)

Peace.

and yo, be straight up sad if ncaa don't clear orlando. not everyone can take the standard path. hate to see a young man punished for supporting his family on the level he probably has.
