All Realignment Talk Here

Something to consider: A 12-team league makes it easier for Gonzaga to join, because they'll only have to visit the East Coast three times a year. The Midwest is still a hike, though.

VCU, Gonzaga (already begging to join), Butler, Xavier, Creighton. That makes it a fantastic 12 team league and there truly are no weak links. Only improvements. IMO adding Dayton and St. Louis could end up biting us in the end.

Yesterday it was Creighton gonna bring us down, today Creighton's an asset but it's Dayton and St. Louis that will spell doom (sorry Moose). You're nothing if not inconsistent, oh and damned funny to read.

I added Creighton only because they make the 12th team and they are the best option out of Dayton, STL, Creighton. I'd obviously rather have a Temple type team instead but it's not there.

Edit: Why are some people so high on George Mason? You can't possibly still be living off their Final Four miracle almost 10 years ago...what have they really done since to warrant a spot in a top conference?

whered you hear gonzaga was begging to join

I just don't see any way Gonzaga is involved. The travel presents too many problems; and this is going to be an all sports league. There women's tennis team isn't traveling to Omaha, NY, and Chicago.
It was worth exploring, but unless there is something I don't know about, I don't see how they join.

Also, disappointed that it doesn't appear it will be a 10 team league. 10 teams lets you play everyone home and away; that's awesome from a fan's perspective I think.

Agree desco. Really wanted that home-away conference schedule.

At least with 12 you get to play everybody and develop geographic rivalries in division while maintaining a somewhat balanced scheduled. More than 12 and you can't even do that.

Good point, when you go to 7 in each "division" you even lose that.
It'll be interesting to see what they end up doing.

Gonzaga has clearly stated it would be very interested in a move to a top basketball conference. They want out of the WCC and could move only their basketball team with us while leaving everything else in the WCC.

Like the article says, there are a lot of moving parts in play. But if we somehow ended up with Gonzaga, Xavier, Butler, VCU, and St. Louis, I would dance naked down Broadway.

Now that would definitely put an abrupt end to the celebration.

OK, I'll put something on. Heels should work nicely.

If Fox intends to televise all the new leagues games does that affect any contract we may have with MSG TV?

We don't really have a contract with them.
Regional networks like them SNY and YES cherry pick games that fall into their lap.

The new Fox channel is currently the SPEED channel. It will be rebranded. Its in 81 million homes so pretty much everyone has it.

Yeah rebranding is totally different from starting from scratch. They already have the space in the channel lineup and the possibility of greater ad revenue could get them in more. Don't forget the cable providers sell ads as packages and not per channel (unless the channel itself stipulates). The big boys (mouse, CBS, fox) I believe sell their own while NBC/Comcast is both (ex NBC sports is sold by Comcast). Sports programming is super hot right now AND fox just purchased the rights for the World Cups in 2018/22 so don't think for one second this station won't be universally available in a couple of years! In fact I think we're better off going with fox or NBC than ESPN or CBS IMO.

Everyone loves advertising on sports because most folks don't DVR it and skip the commercials.

from ESPN.com

Representatives from the Catholic 7 held discussions in New York on Wednesday that included potential future commissioners of the league as well as its television deal, sources said.

At the meeting, Fox officials reaffirmed a $500 million rights fee offer that would be predicated on a 12-year deal with the Catholic 7 (DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova) adding five additional teams to the league.

I continue hearing Butler, Xavier, Dayton, St Louis and Creighton are the favorites. If VCU is asked to join either Creighton or Dayton will be out.

Gonzaga (and St. Mary's) not being considered at this time.

Duquesne is a dark house candidate.
