All Realignment Talk Here

Lets start seeing some commissioner names already!

Ed Manetta. I know your demand for commissioner names was not directed at posters, but I decided to interject anyway.

Duquense? That's a joke right?

There's definitely a point where the seven breakaways would be taking the whole Catholic thing too far, and Duquesne is that point.

The last thing this new conference needs is to be universally referred to as "the Catholic this ..." or "the Catholic that ..." (Sadly, it looks like it has already caught on.) Depending on whether it goes to 10 or 12 teams, it needs to include two to three non-Catholic schools. As for Duquense, its includsion would be a joke for sure: everyone would be laughing but the new conference's fans.

P.S. Love the idea of Ed Manetta as commissioner, but unless it was extremely lucrative, don't think he'd be interested.

Agreed...enough with this holy league, 10 commandment league, catholic 7, etc. in the media...surely secular terms can be derived. Being overly aggressive about religious labels can scare teams away, especially with the new survey coming out that says 1 in 5 Americans are now not affiliated with any religion.

Not to mention those Protestant sects, especially in certain parts of this country, that look negatively upon anything affiliated with Catholicism.

while bored in class my sophomore year of high school back in 2007, I wrote this, pardon my poor spelling..

"It was easier to make mistakes in the past.
In the 1920’s a college basketball conference could be given a name such as:
-Catholic College Conference (CCC).
Today, you couldn’t name the conference “Catholic College Conference” because it would shut the doors on an ever evolving landscape of college sports. Your conference would get left behind if schools from other conferences were deterred from joining the CCC because of its catholic quantification"

hopefully my high school boredom can be advice to the new league. Do not make it a catholic only conference.

Some people did not believe the initial $500 million Fox offer. They reaffirmed that today. Looks like it's ironclad.

I continue hearing Butler, Xavier, Dayton, St Louis and Creighton are the favorites. If VCU is asked to join either Creighton or Dayton will be out.

I just got an e-mail from a guy I know that St. John's is pushing for Dayton's inclusion, but others are not as sold. The person who told me sometimes has reliable information, but not always, so take with a grain of salt.

I've actually heard Gavitt's son's name mentioned.

It was first predicted 7 years ago!

Dan Gavitt joins the Big East
In an interesting move, commissioner Mike Tranghesee announced that Dan Gavitt will be the conference's first-ever Associate Commissioner for men’s basketball. Gavitt most recently served as the athletic director at Bryant College in Rhode Island.

According to the Woonsocket Call, -- 'Dan Gavitt will be the league’s primary basketball administrator and represent the Big East as the main point of contact. He’ll work strictly with the coaches and athletic directors and will also get the chance to rekindle some of the friendships he built during his days as an assistant at Providence.'

Gavitt's father, Dave, was the founder of the Big East and remains Mike Tranghese's mentor. Perhaps this move was made with an eye on the future......Dan Gavitt, future commissioner of the Big East Conference? I would not bet against it --several years down the line.
