All Realignment Talk Here

Expect news later today. It won't be directly about Big East schools but you should be able to connect dots

As usual thanks Della, looking forward to the news coming out.

The Associated Press is reporting that officials from the seven schools will hold a conference call today to discuss the departure. Big East commissioner Mike Aresco isn’t expected to be involved in the conference call.

So much for Aresco................................

Aresco was hired to serve the interests of the football schools. With Rutgers ro the Big and Louisville to the ACC, his mission failed....big time. Of the remaining 3 football schools, only Cincy is commercially viable in the east. Uconn will never be even a Boston College in football. Aresco has to account for the Tulane fiasco.

BEast Catholic schools won' t be moving until 2014 at earliest. Working on dispersing exit fee money now.

So I hear...I just can't think of us in those terms. When all you have seen is failure minus 2011, it's like saying "Back in my day Kia's were regarded as better than Ferrari's!". I wish I could have been around back then because no team I have embraced has ever truly made me proud. The Jets, Mets, and Knicks have come close 1 or 2 years in my lifetime but always failed in the end. After so many down years for SJ, NYK, NYM, NYJ, Isles, etc. you would think one of them is well overdue to go on a huge run. Just to see the word and number "#25 St. John's" on the ESPN/AP Poll would warm my heart. I don't ask for much from this program...I really hope I'm not disappointed after going all in with them in recent years. You guys got to see us make Final Fours and be regarded as the best in the country. I have seen us as low as #18 and that made me pumped like you wouldn't believe. I can only imagine if we do something special like become a top 10 team, make an Elite 8 run, etc.

Joe, I cheer for the same exact teams you do, and I am also too young to remember those "glory days" at SJU. I agree that just seeing a top 25 would be amazing for me, although, my dad, who was at SJU when they made their final four run, has greater expectations. I think when you taste victory, you want to get back there so bad. That's all it is with some of these people saw the final four run lost it and are now begging to get back there. We haven't witnessed much greatness from SJU, and that is why even an NCAA tourney birth would make me go wild. You can't get get on these other posters for having high expectations, because they have seen and lived through things that you and I haven't. I have witnessed two Giants superbowls, and if they don't go on to win another win in 20 years I will still remember those moments, and wanna get back there so bad. Also, about how you want one of those teams to make a run, it is still early but the Knicks are looking good with MVP Melo in his prime

Since I'm a pessimist, my concern is that the football schools get so strong that they can break away from the NCAA and have their own national championships leaving the non-footballers in the dust. But for now, although Yukon/UCon will probably end up somewhere, it's nice to see them SOL for now.

No reason for concern; that is happening. This has been about the BCS schools maximizing their revenues from Day One.

Mike Brey quoted a saying ND would have left with the other Catholic schools if they had not already committed to the ACC.

Also interesting reason why Marquette and DePaul were added to the conf. yrs. ago

That is interesting. I know that we've discussed the inevitability of this split since Joe3 was in middle school. Good to see that at least in one way the hoops schools were prepared for it.

That definitely sucks about Notre Dame. The rights fee would have definitely gone up and the rivalries would have been pretty sweet still. They wouldn't have to worry about their football SOS being forced to play all those garbage ACC programs. I wonder if they may be looking to get out of the ACC after that conference starts getting raided? Hmm...

Interesting note from Andy Katz and I believe very true,
Even Francessa always talked about the importance of a good strong St. John's team
In the Big East. Calhoun agreed early on with this notion but as St.John's floundered
with poor coaches his take changed and he believed the league could still flourish.
He was wrong

"• The demise of St. John's was an underlying blow to the Big East. The league and MSG needed the Red Storm to be consistently good. But there were so many lean years that really hurt the interest in NYC."

It's a shame that ND ended up with the ACC. They would have been perfect to keep.

When the ACC implodes, nd will end up being another of the losers along with cincy, Yukon, wake, etc.
The new BE would be their wet dream , which is why they should never be invited back.

I was against the addition of Marquette and Depaul years ago. Always thaught FB was the weak link and that should have been strengthened. Thaught they should have taken Memphis then. But after reading the article, the addition of those 2 schools makes sense. On the other hand, if FB was strengthened then, maybe the BE wouldnt have had all the defections. The BB schools were probably in favor of letting ND in for BB , I think they should have been FB also or not be invited.

You're talking about the 4 super conferences, right?
Assuming you are, the chances of dook ending up in one of the 4 is ZERO.
That should alleviate your concerns, I hope.
