All Realignment Talk Here

This is fantastic news...hopefully we can work something out where we snag them and St. Mary's. We just got Xavier and Butler. If we can somehow get Cincy, UConn, Memphis, and Temple on board our contract would be very nice.

That's my dream result. I know it won't end up being that big but it would be a national conference of nothing but studs.

I don't know what the correct equation is on what teams to invite or not invite, but it sure is nice to be loved for once.
Maybe i wasn't hugged enough as a kid, but this feels good.

We should build the league slowly with top schools. I hope they don't add those A10 teams right away. Wait until the other conferences have their troubles and add top teams from those other conferences. The Big East will definatly enforce the 27 month waiting period this time because they won't have a league if they don't., so theres plenty of time to find good teams.

I'd be open to Gonzaga for basketball only.

St. John's
Georgetown
Villanova
Seton Hall
Marquete
Depaul
Providence
Xavier
Butler
Temple
Memphis
Gonzaga

Why no mention of adding Holy Cross to get into the Boston market. Not a good fit? Why?

from the Cincinnati Enquirer

Georgetown has not signed on yet.

The decision to form the new league has already been made, according to MU sources. The only holdup is Georgetown President John J. DeGioia, who is struggling with the idea of his school leaving the Big East.

Once DeGioia signs on, an announcement on the formation of the new league, which would begin play next season, could come as early as Friday.

I really hope these donkeys at Georgetown don't try and throw a small monkey wrench into things. Even if by a miracle the ACC would go for hybrid Navy for football/Georgetown for basketball - we should still of course proceed. But it'd be nice if this were not the reason why Georgetown is hesitant.

If we cant take the Big East name I look forward to the future thread with new league name ideas

You would think it would involve Metro something, but you already have the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The skyline conference would be cool too but that's taken by DIII. Maybe the Big Skyline? But then you already have the Big Sky lol. I think it's tough.

I remember when they were trying to choose the red storm name.

Maybe the Nor'Easter conference

I'd love to keep the big east name but it will be real interesting to see what they come up with if we cant take the name with us

The Big City/Big TV Market conference?

From Lenn Robins article in the NY Post.
"By yesterday morning, led by St. John’s president Donald J. Harrington and Georgetown president Dr. John. J DeGioia, the Catholic seven had decided the time was right. The schools will look to sell their marquee games to networks such as ESPN and CBS"
If Georgetown was a major player in the split why would they also be waiting for an ACC invite? ACC invite may just be a pipedream of fans on their boards.

I think I remember reading that they don't spend much now, and I'm not sure they'd want to up the budget enough to be able to compete consistently.

That school deemphasized athletics decades ago.

Too difficult to jump for the non-scholarship Patriot League to an elite conference.

I do not know if I posted this here or on another thread but, according to Lenn Robbins' Post article this AM it said Father Harrington and the President of Georgetown were the spearhead of this move. If that were true why would they hesitate?

Yes, agreed - it is conflicting.

I grew up in Worcester, it's a nice place to be from. HC has about the same impact on the Boston market as Stony Brook does on NYC, probably less. Plus as others have mentioned, the Cross deemphasized athletics years ago when the Patriot League decided to go with modified athletic scholarships.

haha check out the picture and caption in this article. this is why i don't read the times.

Well at least its an awesome picture ;)

I'd love to get Boston market too but even BU and Northeastern would be a huge jump. HC is even more.

Memphis, Temple , Xavier, Butler should be added. I don't want West Coast schools like Gonzaga or St. Mary's. Memphis and Temple have very good basketball teams and mediocre football teams, they won't get invited to the super conferences. You'd rather have St. Louis, Creighton , Dayton then Memphis, Temple ? As long as the basketball schools are running the league then it'll be alright. If Memphis or Temple develop super strong football programs and wanna leave we can always add the A10 schools at a later date. Why bring in those mid majors now when we can bring in powerhouses like Memphis and Temple ?

The FBS schools are not coming and should not be invited. They would look to jump at the first chance they get for a deal that is better for football, whether they are good teams or not.

Having lived up here for a quite a while, college hockey rules the winter.
Not worth it.

Okay, have we been paying attention. It is the Football schools that started this mess and are still trying to leap frog to tother conferences so why in the world would you want them to be part of this? They will leave at the first chance if they think they will get more money because of Football. Let them be.

The FBS schools are not coming and should not be invited.

I can't imagine Blankmeyer is very happy about any of this. Masur could be ok if we add Creighton and St. Louis....

Why not? Seton Hall, G'Town, Nova, etc. are all very good baseball schools. Can't have it all...basketball is our main sport but for baseball we can just have more OOC games.

Seton Hall, G'Town, Nova are not very good baseball schools. They are considered bad baseball schools. Every so often Seton Hall makes the Tournament.

Seton Hall won the BE Baseball tournament two years ago wearing there "throw back" uniforms.

I'm hoping all that chatter is just people on their fan boards expressing their opinions and that there is no substance to it.....i read one message from a poster who said that the ivy league should expand by two members and invite georgetown and duke....good luck with that one.....
