All Realignment Talk Here

When was memphis supposed to join as far as hoops and if we break away from the conference when would that be effective ?

I'd like an excuse to get 1 travel trip there

Aren't Graceland and the "duck walk" at the Peabody Hotel lobby good enough excuses to go there?

What's the duck walk ?

the is buzz among the georgetown boards that the school doesn't want to split because maybe they might get an invite to the acc.

Georgetown to the ACC makes no sense without STJ and Nova.

The ACC is about to become almost entirely former Big East schools. The SEC wants both Duke and UNC. The Big Ten will take UVA and Ga Tech. FSU and Clemson have a foot out the door to the Big 12.

That will leave only Wake and NC State with:

Miami, Va Tech, Louisville, Pitt, and Syracuse. Look familiar?

Not to go off-topic,but since you asked:

"The famous Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis is more than just a nice place to stay. It is also home to one of the city's most famous -- and most peculiar -- attractions. Each day at 11:00 a.m., a parade of five mallard ducks, led by a "duckmaster," makes its way from the roof of the hotel down to the lobby. There, a red carpet is rolled out and John Philip Sousa's King Cotton March begins to play. The ducks march into the fountain of the Peabody's Grand Lobby. At 5:00 p.m., the ceremony is reversed when the ducks return to their rooftop home."

It's quite a sight! And It's the source of Chuck Berry's r 'n' r duck walk. (Don't disappoint and ask who's Chuck Berry.)

Would love to include Memphis in the "new" BE. We could then claim that the 1985 Final Four was all BE.

Anyone who still wants UConn, Cincy, Temple or Memphis involved does not get it. If the 7 leave, it is less about money and more a philosophical move.

I mentioned the Georgetown still looking to a big conference 10 pages ago on this thread. The biggest downside to this new conference is something Hoops Weiss brought up. 5 Mega Conferences of 18 teams each bolting the NCAA and starting teir own thing. That leaves us in a sweet conference with nothing t play for.

Ahhh...Interesting. I'll still need some hoops but Graceland,Hoops,Barbecue and Duck Walk will keep us busy at least

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. I doubt when the dust finally settles and we have our solid basketball conference again that anyone will feel like going through this crap once again. The mega conference then separation from the NCAA theory is still way out in the future if it's even feasible. I would think there are tons of legal boundaries that would interfere if they really tried that. For now, let's be thankful we will at the very least have a major conference to play quality hoops with no cupcakes.

If we cant take the Big East name I look forward to the future thread with new league name ideas

Oooh, boy ... this is opening a door! Please, no mention of "Catholic," "Vatican" or ""Holy Roman."

You would think it would involve Metro something, but you already have the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The skyline conference would be cool too but that's taken by DIII. Maybe the Big Skyline? But then you already have the Big Sky lol. I think it's tough.

I agree. The Big atlantic conference.

I remember when they were trying to choose the red storm name.

Maybe the Nor'Easter conference

I'd love to keep the big east name but it will be real interesting to see what they come up with if we cant take the name with us

That hodge podge of football schools i.e. the remaining Big East is not going to survive more than a few weeks at best.

I would think getting the name "Big East" would be rather easy.

It would be ideal to keep the BE name. But it may not be as easy as you think. I would miss the name. It would be nice to keep it, it will be BB centric just like it started.

from the Cincinnati Enquirer

Georgetown has not signed on yet.

The decision to form the new league has already been made, according to MU sources. The only holdup is Georgetown President John J. DeGioia, who is struggling with the idea of his school leaving the Big East.

Once DeGioia signs on, an announcement on the formation of the new league, which would begin play next season, could come as early as Friday.

What is he waiting for? G'Town plays Marist in football...they are lightyears from being a 1A football school. They are god awful. He needs to realize what his real strength is...basketball. Everyone else is being loyal and now G'Town throws a monkey wrench? The sooner we make a deal, the better, so we can finally end this mess and the poaching of our teams will finally be over. I will have a HUGE sigh of relief if we do this and add Xavier, Butler, etc. then get a good TV deal.

I can't imagine Blankmeyer is very happy about any of this. Masur could be ok if we add Creighton and St. Louis....
