All Realignment Talk Here

I can't imagine Blankmeyer is very happy about any of this. Masur could be ok if we add Creighton and St. Louis....

Why not? Seton Hall, G'Town, Nova, etc. are all very good baseball schools. Can't have it all...basketball is our main sport but for baseball we can just have more OOC games.

I`m not sure if this has been mentioned on here, if it hasthen my bad.

Woohoo! Butler is a great academic school by the way. So now do we take 1 more, or a few more? I really hope we can get St. Mary's and Gonzaga somehow.

This is fantastic news...hopefully we can work something out where we snag them and St. Mary's. We just got Xavier and Butler. If we can somehow get Cincy, UConn, Memphis, and Temple on board our contract would be very nice.

West:
Xavier
St. Mary's
Gonzaga
Cincy
Butler
DePaul
Creighton
St. Louis
BYU

East:
SJ
SH
Nova
G'Town
Prov
UConn
Memphis
Temple
Marquette

That's my dream result. I know it won't end up being that big but it would be a national conference of nothing but studs.

I would not hold your breath with hopes that Memphis, Cincinnati, South Florida, temple, or Yukon are included in the New Big East.

Every article I have read during the,past 24 hours indicates that noon FBS school will be included in tHe New Big East and that the number of schools will be limited to 9 to 12 to allow home and home games each year against each conference school similar to existed during the glory years of the conference.

No need to feel sorry for Yukon and Cincy if they are not included in the New Big East since each have openly campaigned for admission to anyother league that would have them. Likewise less attractive media schools Memphis, south Florida and temple could reasonable be expected to bolt the New Big East if an opportunity arose to protect the considerable financial investment which each has made in their respective pitifully performing football programs.

Below is a new article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentenel that appears the give an overview of what the New Big East may look like.

They don't need to join for all sports...if their backs are up against the wall and the alternative is playing Tulane, SMU, and UCF, I think there's a chance they can join us for basketball only.

The conference they are with for football and all the other sports won't allow it. The conference formed with football in mind will be all in for every member. Notre Dame is the exception and only exception when it comes to this.

Joe Joe Joe I gotta ask you something. UConn and Cincy were openly trying to get out of the B.E., no??????
They were both wanted to tell us good bye on the way to the ACC. and both were pissed when the ACC took Louisville. So please seriously tell me why you give a damn about those RAT BASTARDS?????

Me??? I want nothing to do with them, for all I care they could go straight to hell.
Joe my friend this was a lesson, this is a chance to correct things to put the B.E. back to what made it great (an all bball conf). So no UConn and Cincy, it`s good freaking bye to you 2. Rot with Tulane and the rest of those new little ffball schools coming in. Oh and one last thing you RAT BASTARDS. The B.E. name is ours and we`re taking it to the new league so deal with it

Can't include football schools because they still have the impetus to leave. We certainly can have those schools on the OOC slate every year though. Add to our Catholic Conference mix with OOC games at the Garden like Uconn, Syracuse, Notre Dame and we'll continue those rivalries and maintain a high SOS as well as big crowds at the Garden. The lure of the Garden is what puts SJU in a good position regardless. We will never have difficulty scheduling OOC opponents there, and good ones at that.

I really think Gonzaga is needed as the exclamation point saying "we are establishing ourselves as one of the premier basketball conferences". Word is that they would love to join so the only hangup is the travel situation, but they can easily just be basketball only and everything else stays in the WCC. Perhaps same for St. Mary's. I know Nova will step it up they are too good not to, Seton Hall has been getting better as of late, Providence has a pair of all americans, we finally are consistently getting big time recruits, Marquette will get better, etc. It's essential that a handful of the teams in this new conference step it up. When running full steam ahead, this is a conference that can potentially have 6 or more bids. G'Town, Nova, Marquette, Gonzaga, Xavier, SJ.

Anyone who still wants UConn, Cincy, Temple or Memphis involved does not get it. If the 7 leave, it is less about money and more a philosophical move.

I mentioned the Georgetown still looking to a big conference 10 pages ago on this thread. The biggest downside to this new conference is something Hoops Weiss brought up. 5 Mega Conferences of 18 teams each bolting the NCAA and starting teir own thing. That leaves us in a sweet conference with nothing t play for.

That is a given; the question is how will the BCS super-conferences and the non-BCS conferences choose to relate in sports other than football. Many see a scenario where the non-BCS schools have their own "NCAA" tournament in hoops and the BCS conferences have their own end of season tourney. The BCS schools will break away from the NCAA; that is inevitable. The bottom line in this of course is that the BCS schools do not want to share money with non-BCS schools; always follow the money.

That seems very improbable and it's wayy down the line i.e. 25+ years if it does come up. There would be millions of laws and regulations broken. You can't just up and leave conferences and then the NCAA altogether without a huge legal mess. I think if it gets to that level the government shuts it down and finally does something.

Memphis, Temple , Xavier, Butler should be added. I don't want West Coast schools like Gonzaga or St. Mary's. Memphis and Temple have very good basketball teams and mediocre football teams, they won't get invited to the super conferences. You'd rather have St. Louis, Creighton , Dayton then Memphis, Temple ? As long as the basketball schools are running the league then it'll be alright. If Memphis or Temple develop super strong football programs and wanna leave we can always add the A10 schools at a later date. Why bring in those mid majors now when we can bring in powerhouses like Memphis and Temple ?

10 teams makes for a great 18 game round robin season 30-40 teams would suck. The original BE worked because of the home and home's. I FEEL LIKE IT'S CHRISTMAS MORNING. Can't wait to see what we got!!!!

the big east worked because it was unique...AND it was when the best coaches didn't make alot of money. today, big conferences pay big bucks. small conferences look for successful assistants or low major coaches. that's a slippery slope. with divisions you WOULD have home and homes. that's the point of divisions.

anyway, it's a suggestion. none of us have any input.

If it's divisions you want just give us a 7 team division in the 21 team A10. But for me the 10 team BE sounds perfect.

mid major...which apparently is where we're headed. i should have thrown in the most important reason the early big east worked...espn. it was a start up network and the conference broadcast us nationally. we both became big time at the same time. those days of being the only game in town are over. xavier/georgetown home and homes aren't drawing squat.[/quote

Sorry what is being talked about is not a mid-major conference!!!!

Agree with your points on Memphis and Temple, but are you serious you don't want Gonzaga or St. Mary's? Gonzaga was just recently a top 10 team. We lost a lot of the top 10 potential teams to the ACC...we need Gonzaga to help with that. We may have 3 or 4 top 20-25's, but we need some real studs other than just G'Town. Gonzaga could very easily end up being the best team in the entire conference and you don't want them? With them we are a national brand, and there can be a west division for them to play in and make traveling easier.

St. John's --> 28 NCAA's 2 Final Four's #7 winningest all time
Providence-->15 NCAA's 2 Final Four's Elite 8 in 1997
G'Town--> 28 NCAA's 5 Final Four's 1 championship
Seton Hall-->9 NCAA's 1 Final Four lost NIT championship last year
Marquette-->30 NCAA's 3 Final Four's
DePaul-->22 NCAA's 2 Final Four's
Nova-->32 NCAA's 4 Final Four's 1 championship
Xavier-->23 NCAA's 2 Elite 8's
Butler-->11 NCAA's 2 Final Four's advancing to champ games

If anyone thinks this would not be a major basketball conference, you are nuts. This is not even counting if Memphis, UConn, Temple, Cincy come which would only put us over the top.

Joe3; you keep talking about UCONN and Cincy; they are dedicated to getting into a football centered conference. WE DO NOT WANT THEM!!!
