@AdamZagoria: Source close to the player says Adonis De La Rosa is now a full qualifier at St. John's. Waiting on confirmation from school.
Our lucky day. Is there say that good things come in trees?
This news, while great for all if true, makes this saga even more bizarre. Why declare the kid ineligible without first doing your complete due diligence??????
Who cares as long he is eligible. . They could have declared him ineligible to save themselves from some sort of NCAA problem if he played in games. None of us knows how this crap works they could have just been covering themselves. If we were UNC then it wouldn't have been a problem.
I imagine that ADR and his family might care just a little. Hell I know I'd care if it was my kid. In fact I'd be pissed. The fact that they may have been "covering themselves" doesn't mean they handled this properly. Jerking a kid around like this, especially in the public eye, is not right. Even if the outcome turns out to be a favorable one.

Considering CTKs past indiscretions, maybe ADR rejected his advances and he's pissed. hmy:

You do realize that I was talking about the NCAA and not CTK?

Yea, I just can't get over a coach blowing the whistle, unless he thought this would come back at him if he didn't

Heard this story last week about Arb's nephew & walk on request;
@SammyAlbano: The #Poolboy #PonziSchemingCoach tried 2 hold up @StJohnsBBall to take his nephew as a #walkon & was rebuffed. Vindictive & turns in #ADR

Holy crap thats unreal. If Maven is saying it I'm believing it
I can +1 on this story also. The CHSAA coaches in general (not all, but the most and culture-wise) are very entitled especially when it comes to St Johns. They feel SJU should ALWAYS offer their best players even when they're not up to Big East level and that SJU should directly reflect personnel and values of CHSAA.
I have been a very harsh Lavin critic but I will back him up on this. I am glad he will not bow down to these folks. Arbitello also upset that SJU didn't offer Severe. Here's the problem: when SJU offers CHSAA kids that wren't really worthy of a Big East offer, thats how you get Mike Cavataio, who couldnt compete on this level.
I don't know the relationships that Lavin has forged with area coaches, but I can tell you that even with a healthy donation check attached to my request, I couldn't get him to sign a birthday card for my then 13 year old. Crazy.

I agree with you about throwing the CHSAA coaches a bone every now and then.
But if Lavin acted like that toward you, how have you kept outwardly supporting him for so long?

Desco, I actually am not a huge Lavin supporter, I just try to be balanced. He's not a great game coach, but he surrounded himself with some pretty talented assistants, so I try to be balanced in terms of how much poor coaching has to do with on court performance. I do think we've attracted better talent in his years here than in quite some time, but clearly not enough of it. I'm not sold entirely on statistics, like blocked shots and scoring average, so I don't think the talent level is what we need to be a tourney team. While I think Lavin is a good communicator, I don't think he is a warm and fuzzy person who even knows the entire athletic department well, no less students and alumni. Last season was a huge disappointment, but there's a magical thing called winning players, and I'm not sure our guys were/are. Finally to be fair about it all, if Briscoe had simply said "St. John's" the clamor that began last week would be a resounding "Extend Lavin now!" I don't have to be in love with the guy, but he does have to win here, and as long as he's here I will root for him to win.
