Adonis not Eligible?

Posters raised red flags about Adonis waiting so late to take the exam. Most of is dismissed it, but I guess those posters were right.

Adonis at CTK MM after game last night. Chatting and laughing with Arbitello. Certainly didn't look like any hard feelings between the two.

It's a good indication that Arbitello didn't turn him in.

Or Adonis's naivete.

Yep

Paultz you think he turned him in? I honestly have no idea, but the list of suspects is long. Even if you buy in to the idea(I don't) that he would be willing to throw one of his kids under the bus just to get at Lavin, I can't see Arbitello shooting himself in the foot like that. I also don't think he cares that much. But I'm just speculating.

Let me amend my response & say it is clear from his own words he does not respect Lavin.

Does Adonis or Lavin even know who the third party is? Could be possible that person is to remain anonymous
Had to be someone very proficient in math as they were able to calculate that his second test score was more than 200 points greater than his first test score. Not an easy mathematical
problem to solve, very complicated and very time consuming. That is why it got by the NCAA Clearing House and our crack compliance staff..

I would hope this gets resolved next week. ADR can be a contributor. I'm still somewhat confused as to what the issue is. I know it's been pointed out that he had to take the SAT a second time and that his score improved by more than 200 pounts, thus he is "flagged." But unless NCAA can prove that ADR somehow cheated, how can they possibly stop him from playing?

It's funny, but as the younger posters on here know, the college board has instituted a bunch of controls that a test taker can deploy in not releasing his scores to colleges if he chooses not to. This has been deployed because of the pressure among hs juniors to get in to the best schools possible. There are some complexities though, whereby releasing a score to one school can give some other schools (not all) access to their scores.

There have been some improprieties over time where athletes who are not good students miraculously raise their scores significantly to qualify, so the NCAA flags these improvements to investigate. How they remediate them appears to us to be murky, and where your questions arise appropriately.

Since D1 college sports are largely showcases and training grounds for potentially pro athletes, some coaches are proponents of ending the charade of being academically qualified, and accepting any athlete, qualified or not. Even poor students can be given remedial work that enhances them academically. In the current environment, it's much more distasteful to have some nearly illiterate athletes be given passing grades they really didn't earn, and complete their eligibility without receiving much of an education of any sort.

So if he improved greatly on his SATs, he should be flagged ineligible? Shouldn't they do some research first and then make him ineligible if there is actual grounds for it? It seems like they ruled him ineligible as soon as they found out about the increase in score.

Side note: why don't they make it required to take a quick photo at the testing site before the test to go back on just in case there's speculation that it wasn't you. I believe I had to do this for my GRE's.

there has to be more to this then that. There are companies that guarantee they will raise your score 200 points if you pay them and take their course. Has to be more than a 200 point score increase.

I used to teach the math portion of this course back in the '80's
They would guarantee that they would raise your overall score by 200 points
Read the fine print - you have to attend every class, do every bit of every HW assignment, etc
I don't know of any student that ever received any compensation after the fact

what are the allegations? Is there anything definitive; or are we just going off of partial information?

The guys getting paid to cover this team have to do their jobs. Anyone can post anything here and half of us run with it as if it is factual.

You very well might be right in many cases but what do you get out of this board if that's how you react to anything that is said here and not said by a beat reporter?

I get plenty out of the boards. Here are just three of them; 1)Maher's one liners, 2)Paultz's links that he posts minutes after they are published, and 3) opinions from other Johnny fans like you who know a lot more than I do.

One thing I learned over the course of 15 years of posting and reading is that people can post false stories with no risk or harm. A beat reporter can lose their job and career by printing or posting a story that they know is false.

FWIW...on Friday night I heard third hand that one the beat writers said it was not the CTK coach. Now I don't know what the truth is, but I know that if he runs with the story he will do so after having to verify the facts.

I have a pretty wide net of people I can lean on for information. And I've heard that story for a variety of people who have no affiliation with each other. I subscribe to where there is smoke there is fire theory.

I just find posts like the one you posted above where you are dismissive of those who share info a little head scratching. Because without those who share some info they hear these boards would be a pretty boring place.

I agree that the allegation made the board more interesting. However, the follow-up posts took it at face value without any evidence. It may be truthful, but I have my doubts about it and want to see the beat writers do their job and identify the third party. They know who it is. It should be printed to clear this guys name, or force him to explain why he would screw a kid who played for him.
