Adonis De La Rosa,

Somebody needs to tell our recruits its SJU not USJ. Adonis is just the latest to say University of St Johns.
Just change the of to is-The University Is St. John's!

Cut the kid some slack. How many people say Notre Dame University instead of University of Notre Dame (clue: plenty) ... and how many on this board have repeatedly confused UK with KU? Let's put it to rest and be happy that the kid wants to be here, be it with USJ or SJU.

I resemble the scolding since I said nothing negative at all. But now that you brought it up is it really too much for a 17-18 yr old that has picked a college and has put some thought into all aspects of the school at least presumably to get the name right? How about if we got his name wrong he probably wouldn't have chosen us, bodkin. :)

How many guido casual fans are going to buy tickets figuring they are going to see an All Italian Front Court. lol

Layoff I remember watching an NBA player being interviewed (forget who) and after playing for 4 years he called it Georgia Tech University instead of Georgia Institute of Technology and he actually went there

Welcome Adonis!!!

I have been very critical of the (lack of) interest of our staff about the recruiting of New York City players.
It is obvious that with this verbal I have to eat crow.

Good work by the coaches.

I know Omm'A Givens definitely cut schools from his list when they screwed up his name in mailings. That's all I got.

He should have cut off his parents for giving him that name.

Not to mention St. John's ran commercials that talked about the school and the catch phrase at the end was "The University is St. John's."

Again, cut him some slack. Fact is he's, what?, an 18-year-old high school kid, and at the time -- about to reveal a very important decision about his future in front of his teammates, coaches, family, and members of the media -- undoubtedly a very nervous kid at that. Hey, at least everyone understood the school he picked. (As for your "resembling" my comment: homage to Norm Crosby?)

Yes, loved Norm Crosby! My first job after graduating SJU was as a court officer and I was the only college grad with almost everyone else just HS. Used to intentionally use malapropos and this one guy used to always correct me an say I can't believe you went to college!

Was intentionally trying to get redken's name wrong and thought of using a name that was close and rhymed and thought of using a takeoff on yours.

Wow, now that was a stretch! (Or given your love of malaprops, should I say "stench"?)

Now back to Adonis ...

this makes me feel much better with JPM's and Konchalski's opinion of ADL. Just what we needed, but not a savior that everybody wants tomorrow to rescue next season. Good work by the staff, let's see what happens next.

Ditto. I'm excited to have the kid on the team. Seems like he has a high basketball IQ and more importantly wants to be here. Always good to have a local star stay home.
