Criticism of Mullin and the offense just noted has to be countered by the fact that none of our Bigs had any Post moves in a traditional back to the basket mode . I like Owens but, a assessment of his game has to include the fact he rarely presented himself as a BE Frontcourt player . He could not manuver inside against Govan , Delgado , Kanter, etc . and seemed content to roam where he was comfortable . So , recognize the Player’s weakness before stating it was a failure of Mullin’s offense . Remember too , this was suppose to be a 3 Guard Offense , Ponds, LoVett and Simon with looks for Clarke from the Wing . Owens started the year coming off the Bench . His good early play and Lovett’s departure elevated him to Starting status . All up , he played as well as he could . No one doubted his work ethic or hustle . He did enough to be welcomed back . Surprise he raised the issue otherwise .

If we had a big with a low post game, he'd get plenty of opportunities. Owens doesn't have that right now. They used him in the pick and pop plenty and his outside game improved. Part of the reasons he didn't get more shots is because, as noted, whenever he got the ball in the block, even against smaller players, he didn't know how to score. And he wasn't a factor on the offensive glass.

When Clark showed the ability to take the ball to the basket or post up a player ISO as the year progressed, instead of being a spot up shooter only, we specifically ran plays in the weak side pick and roll to give him those opportunities. Look at the Georgetown game.

Hope Owens comes back. If the ship has sailed, go recruit your a** off and get two serviceable bigs, at least one of which can pound the glass.

Wouldn’t Ok State be funny
So besides an overly involved Dad , irrational confidence, lack of low post game and erratic jump shot, Owens biggest problem is his amazing inability to gain weight. So based off his choices lets break down where he should go.
7. Ohio State-I googled Ohio famous for what food and basically nothing comes up. Scratch them off his list.
6. VCU / ODU-Ham and Peanuts. Not a big Virginia Ham fan and peanuts are useless. Scratch them off the list.
5. Ole Miss-Fried Chicken per google. Now we are talking but there are still better options.
4. OK state-BBQ-LIke me some BBQ but not there yet.
3 .Maryland-Crab Cakes. I like Crab Cakes!
2. Kentucky- Fried Chicken Duh and BBQ. Should win except for....
1. Texas Tech-BBQ and Tex Mex. I like me some Tex Mex
He should go to Texas Tech!
If you should find yourself in Ohio try Graeter's ice cream and Skyline chili :D.

As for Tariq personally I would have loved if he got 4 shots of the pick and roll, 2 open 15 footers, and unlimited put back attempts a game. 2-3 put backs a game would spike his numbers tremendously. Ultimately though, that's not his game and it's very tough to do in the big east when you're butting heads with Delgado, Govan, Spellman etc. I have no doubt there is pro money for Tariq out there somewhere. I hope he gets it.

Pretty sure he's a fourth-year junior. If he graduates in May he can transfer back.

Not sure if Tariq's father is doing any comparative analysis, or if he just thinks his son is a true anomaly.

If he does some homework, he might find that there are very few examples of kids leaving a school like St. John's (with a razor thin roster) and going to a school like Maryland, getting more shots and having it all come together. It is a distinct possibility that this guy moves his son into a less desirable situation.

All I keep thinking of is that “As told by ginger” theme song by Macy Gray

Someone once told me
The grass is much greener,
On the other side;
And I paid a visit
(Well, it's possible I missed it)
It seemed different,
Yet exactly the same
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
'Til further notice ( further notice)
I'm in-between ( in between)
From where I'm standing ( where I’m standing),
My grass is green.
Someone once told me
The grass is much greener
On the other side.

St. John’s graduate transfer Tariq Owens is down to Maryland, Texas Tech & Western Kentucky, per a source. Plans to visit Texas Tech after the Final Four.

Fixed that for you.

Rumor has it the Owens are not looking for more playing time or a better program but a better coach going into his final year of eligibility.

The truth is we will likely never understand the Owens full motive. Likely a combination of a number of different factors. Time to move on.

72..... can you give us a cite for that “rumor” or are you merely attempting to start the “rumor” ?

Father’s answer re his choices

Replying to @NYPost_Brazille
Maryland went to NCAA last 3 years and it’s Home, Texas Tech one game away from final 4, Western Kentucky was one game for NIT championship. All have a need for Tariq Owens at the position he plays. St Johns has a need as well. What’s best for #11 that’s what’s important 2 me now

You want a "cite" for a rumor? I gave Beast facts and he turned them into opinions about Villanova. When father Owens stated that playing time was not the issue the appropriate comments followed. Many of those comments pertained to Mullin's use of younger Owens. Please contact Paultzman for tutorials in "reading tea leaves 101".
I would cite more specific references with names but you tend to take great pleasure in editing out names from my posts so I only respond to friendly posters via PM.: B)

Owens played hard here for two seasons and is supposed to graduate. We will know in a year if Maryland pays off for him.

Tariq's dad complained on Twitter during the season, that Ponds took too many shots. That pretty much sums it up.

One of the unfortunate things about the current state of college hoops is that many of these kids will never know the joy (or, in our case, pain) of a connection to your alma mater.

I'm 30+ years removed from St. John's, but I still wear the colors and waste too much time on sites like this. I get overly excited when I see us play (and play well) and get far too miserable when we stink.

That's not a hot at Tariq - just a comment that players who hop schools are sacrificing something that is pretty special.

Exactly. He wants to shoot more. At MD?
Doubt it.
Good luck, Tariq.
