Losing Brooks was disappointing , I said that .Not Terrible was also said . What’s wrong with that ? This was a HS player who changed his verbally committed Obligations as quickly as his underwear . First ,USC and then us , then Washington . He never dribbled a Ball here noropened a book . He was a handshake that he revoked . Mullin didn’t withdraw his offer .Brooks shows why HS kids with Great potential are fawned over by Sneaker Companies and College Coaches . But, the days of Commitment that meant something are over . So , is losing a recruit who got whispered to by Hopkins in his home state , really a loss ? Sure he is a good player but, their are lots of good players out there. It’s getting the ones who seriously want to play here and be Coached by Mullin . I see Gerry McNamara and Eric Debendorf on the Orange sidelines . Former Boeheim players . Does sitting there on the Bench make then experienced enough for a HC gig somewhere ? His about watching Videos ? Administering a Budget already established by a more Senior University Official ? Hopkins sat on Boeheims bench for nearly a quarter Century , what does he offer that Mullin doesn’t ? Answer , nothing . Maybe Brooks wanted to stay close to home all along ? Why wasn’t he interested in Gonzaga or they him ? He could play for them as easily as Washington , unless he couldn’t get in Gonzaga or , maybe Few didn’t want him ? Who knows? A disappointment ? Yes ! A tragedy ? No !
That's a great little diatribe. Problem is he committed to USC, not Washington. After the initial stench of the sneaker scandal wore off I guess he decided to stick with his first instinct. Guess he liked Andy Enfield more than Mullin? Enfield should have been in the dance for the third straight year this year. So maybe he just likes winning? More than likely there are a wide range of reasons he considered but I bet distance from home was one of them.
