Tough job out of gate but looks like a promising, experienced guy to serve as an excellent change agent.

Looking forward to his coming aboard. While I have no love for Duke, one thing that I respected about their basketball program is how they kept former players involved. Due to the turnover in coaches since Coach Carnesecca left, there are no former players working for the University. Hopefully we get some stability and begin to bring former players back in some capacity.

+1

Awesome news! Admittedly this is one of those situations where I was expecting a no name from a no name program and I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. Now let's hope we take his feedback and give him significant say.

Wonder what he thinks about our recruiting structure :p

Well there is one.

(I get and do agree with your overall point though).

Good point. it took me a second to realize you were talking about Mullin.

Does Bill Schaeffer still work for the university?

I was assured that the next AD would have all head coaches reporting to him. This hire seems to affirm that. Really happy at face value, but then again was really happy when [strike]we stole[/strike] Slice [strike]stole from us[/strike] from Kentucky

Just a great hire. In the corporate world we always wanted to hire talented people from those companies whose success we wanted to emulate.

[quote="Sju grad 13" post=296062]According to Zach this guy has full autonomy which means Mullin really is on the clock right now.[/quote]

Since Duke was Chris' #2 choice as a HS recruit I wonder if Chris knows him already?

Yep, so there are two, Chris and Bill. One played here almost 50 years ago and one played over 30 years ago. The point I was making that there are no recent former players who could connect and act as role models for our current players. I wonder how many current players would recognize Bill on campus.

You really know how to make a guy feel old Panther. I remember both of them well - can't believe it's been around 50 years since Bill Schaefer played for us.

LOL Beast.

This would be a great hire. Hopefully all the coaches respect the hire. I think they needed an outsider who could reorganize things. Speaking of stealing, UCONN and Hurley are doing a good job of going after our recruits. I wish I could be a fly on the wall when they are introduced to Kassoum Yakwe. Sharing his experience at St. John's is not a good thing imo.

Seems like a fabulous hire. And all coaches to report to the AD 'right-sizes' (one of my favorite geeky terms) our structure.
Clean reporting lines are essential to any successful organization.
Things are looking up.
Next, Mustapha is cleared to play...!
Let the games begin.

We also had Bernard Rencher working in an academic capacity at St. John's. Zendon was a volunteer (? ) assistant coach in 2014-16. I always wondered if he could have worked as an assistant coach recruiting with Matt if Mully kept Mitch on a per diem basis since Mitch seems to prefer per diem work.;)
