AD Search

My g d. Almost seems too good for us. This would be a dream come true on paper. I would hope that whomever the next AD would be they are given control over the men’s bball program.

If we aren't going to get an AD from another school I'd be fine with this one as long as he states openly that Duke is a Satanic school and renounces all fond memories. I dont think that would be asking too much

And as RMN just said he needs to be in charge of Basketball also. No more butting in from other wannabe's

Guys, if we can get this guy, we'd be absolutely nuts not to do so! I will believe it when it happens.

He would absolutely NOT take the job if it didn't include men's basketball as that, and fund raising, are his biggest strength.
We are not hiring an AD to oversee the tennis team.
Strong candidate....almost seems questionable why he'd want to leave.

won't be easy....Must really love a good challenge or we are overpaying.
So let's overpay. We're a turn-around program. Got to pay for a key guy. It's a no-brainer to hire Craig, if he has been in the mix of Duke's success and passes background checks,
And give him the authority to be a real AD.

Duke is an absolutely first class organization academically and athletically and this guy has been there for 20 years plus. I can't emphasize enough how genuinely gracious Duke was to my daughter when she decided to go to Columbia over Duke. If we want to get to the next level, this is the type of hire we need to make. Let's make it happen.

I was reading a bit about him and he seems to oversee the facilities at Duke as well having a big role there...hopefully we hire him and he looks at CA and makes some good recommendations. He also won an award I believe as recently as 2008...this guy has been at Duke for a long time and he has been around one of the best programs ever. He also has a Twitter page and seems fairly active which is a plus IMO. We need an AD to be able to get info out there and interact with fans.

When we were in the ncaa's the previous time, I stayed at the westin in Charlotte. It was a lot closer to the arena than the sky hotel. I guess the ncaa gives top seeds better hotel choices. It was dukes host hotel.

Granted Duke is in every season but they know how to do the ncaa tourney. Every hotel employee was given Duke t shirts which they wore, the place was decked out in Duke banners and colors, and Duke had a table to sign their fans up for receptions. First class all the way.

I welcome a guy who knows first class and brings it here. Seems like a strong play.

Duke's AD isn't young, but two of the three other deputies look to be. Maybe Cragg isn't confident in advancing past where is is at Duke. Would be a great get -- he certainly will know what a professionally run athletic department looks like.

I would be very happy with this hire. Huge difference in hiring the assistant AD of a school as prestigious and successful as Duke as compared with hiring the AD of Hartford. No offense to Goff, but it's night and day. Everything I've heard about this guy seems very positive.

But then the guy that checked us in found out we had never been to Chick Fil A before and he gave us like $30 in free vouchers so I got over it pretty quick

I ended up sending him the ticket stub from Coach K's 1000th win against us at MSG because Duke was his favorite team. I figured that would be better than wiping my butt with it and mailing it to Coach K :)

So that's where Crowell got the idea to wipe his butt with the football and throw it into the stands!!

Great news! I sure hope he insists on having authority and is not just a figurehead. Seems like he really knows the job.

Just Like with the Mets you want them to hire someone from an organization that knows how to win!!
This looks like a great hire. Bring someone in with knowledge of how a big time program is run. I am sure he would not have taken the job without some assurances on money to be spent and the dedication from the school for the programs long term success.

just an observation I could be wrong but power regarding the athletic department, specifically the basketball program seems to be in the hands of the administration especially during the Harrington years rather than the ADs. I am optimistic about the hire.

Duke’s Mike Cragg has agreed in principle to be the next St Johns AD, sources say. Terms of deal still being finalized. Official announcement expected in the next day or so. @JonRothstein first. #sjubb
