I really hope recruits don’t see this.[/quote]

This has nothing to do with the school, just their frustration with the NCAA as a whole

Does anyone know if Lenny Kaplan from NJIT is a candidate ? I believe he went to St. John’s and has been doing a solid job at his current employer.

I doubt he will be a candidate

Some folks have noted the SJU President wanted this under the radar process to culminate in selection of new AD in September.( Yes, this September :) ) We’ll see soon enough I sense.

FYI , plan is for ALL coaches to report to AD - no exceptions.

Thanks for sharing the under the radar plan president Bobby!

The fact that Bobby wants this search to be conducted under the radar indicates he does not want a lot of discussion about it. That quite honestly makes me nervous. The covert nature of the search makes me think that Bobby wants the person picked under his thumb, so I doubt he will be allowed to be too creative or a true administrator.

I wouldn't be so sure. There are lots of reasons for it to be under the radar. First of all, it's not an easy position to fill, and to publicize this as being open and then have it become elongated is embarrassing. Second I'm sure they don't want speculation as to potential targets or candidates and have some or all fall by the wayside.

There are some interesting reasons why it didn't happen that way this time, but I can't publicly discuss.

"The shadow knows..."

The concern over whether Mullin reports to the AD or not , have been posted by previous members . Like Beast said, “ at many , many Schools , the high profile Coach in basketball or football might not be in a Reporting relationship with the AD . It’s just the way things are . And , in many high profile schools the Head Coach might even be more important than the College President . It’s true . It’s usually not something that is flaunted around but, it is the case more often than not .

What a tease!
Maybe you can't but I can!
President Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D., Agricultural Economics, has narrowed his choices to two surprise candidates. Neither have any sports administration experience but he feels they are starting with nothing and wants someone who can think outside the box.
The top candidate is Manuel Victorino Pangilinan who hails from Manila. He really likes sports and feels he can really understand what Conrad is saying.
The other candidate is Horatio Purl mutter who hails from Ocala Florida. His experience is in developing Olympic swimmers. He feels he can turn around the swimming team and promises to build an Olympic sized swimming pool on the site of the current tennis courts.
No sports will actually report to the new A.D. as Conrado wants to role strictly to be ceremonial. He will mostly attend the way too many as it is St. John's golf outings and pick up Mitch Richmond at the airport when he is in town.

Being considered a "High Profile" coach is something that is earned after establishing yourself on the sidelines. This is very different from being a Big Name coach who has yet to prove himself as a winner. Jay Wright is currently a high profile coach, but it to some years for him to reach that status. His first few years were rocky and then he landed that 2002 Class of Foye, Ray, Sumpter, and Fraser which accelerated his progress. Now, he is on his way to the Hall of Fame.

While I know you are being sarcastic you could have at least picked a sport St. John’s currently has instead of swimming which was disbanded in 2003 and the school weight and athletic center sits on top of what was the pool.

Grempshaw did pick a professional AD the last time and while it didn’t work out, I would be surprised if he doesn’t this time.

Hopefully they hire someone who understands that we need a new on campus arena. Just look at DePaul, they are already reaping the benefits (assuming they can keep the 4 star kid commited). Running out of excuses when it comes to the new arena topic. DePaul is a very similar school in a big city and they got it done, why not us?

Other big donors here can say better than me with their convos with Bobby G but we will not be hiring a big time AD and we aren't paying for one. I can be proven wrong but time will tell and that's what I'm told

ironically Goff would have eventually been good but his demise should make us all want to drink more to forget about SJU. No pun intended

Many people think the swim team was disbanded but I have an anonymous source who says that the women's team has secretly been perpetuated over the years by a rogue former coach who sent me proof that the team still exists. They regularly meet outside of Alumni Hall, near where the pool used to be, to practice their strokes. The coach admits that training during the NY winters is a challenge.

I am not saying we will hire a big time AD, but what I mean by professional is one who has past experience running an Athletic Department similar in size of what we have at St. John’s and not a puppet.
