Just a great hire. In the corporate world we always wanted to hire talented people from those companies whose success we wanted to emulate.
great analogy

According to Zach this guy has full autonomy which means Mullin really is on the clock right now.
Since Duke was Chris' #2 choice as a HS recruit I wonder if Chris knows him already?
He arrived at Duke shortly after Mullin graduated here. Looks like they are roughly the same age -- Cragg graduated from the University of Washington in 1986.

He has an extremely impressive bio. It will be interesting to see what his top initiatives are and which he can get accomplished.

Jaden as a Tar Heel fan are you ok w a “Dookie” coming here? :)

Love the hire...Cragg will bring some semblance of intelligence & common sense to our program.

I was assured that the next AD would have all head coaches reporting to him. This hire seems to affirm that. Really happy at face value, but then again was really happy when [strike]we stole[/strike] Slice [strike]stole from us[/strike] from Kentucky
This would be a great hire. Hopefully all the coaches respect the hire. I think they needed an outsider who could reorganize things. Speaking of stealing, UCONN and Hurley are doing a good job of going after our recruits. I wish I could be a fly on the wall when they are introduced to Kassoum Yakwe. Sharing his experience at St. John's is not a good thing imo.
I know some HUGE UCONN fans who have a good beat on their program. UCONN needed a body for this year, and they only had to commit 1 year to Yakwe, so being they had a roster spot and no commitment after this year, it was a very low risk move for them. If it works out great, if not, no skin off their nose. They aren't looking at this like they got a huge bargain by getting him. It just fit being that they had roster space and a 3 year D1 player to fill it.

As long as the next head coach isn’t Jon “Punchable Face” Scheyer, yes.

He may be a great hire.

But let's be clear who is the most powerful athletic official at Duke not just in basketball but the entire department. His name is Mike Krzyzewski. The AD or Assistant AD may be higher ranking on paper but NO ONE is more powerful at Duke than Mike Krzyzewski.

And my point is I see people on twitter saying things like "we got a guy who knows how to run a basketball program." Uhhh not quite....

At the very least he knows what a great basketball program us run like. Thats about all we were going to be able to hope for with this regime

I guess we just needed someone detached enough from the St. John's mom and pop power structure who would be tasked with firing Chris Mullin if absolutely necessary. Uconn, who is now our chief rival for recruits, has no problem firing KO, a coach who won them a National Championship.
We don't have a coach K so his power here will be much more visible.

Absolutely. You don't work for 31 years at a school like Duke without doing many things right. No way to put a negative spin on this hire. We couldn't have asked for more.

But to be clear I'm not backing down on my demand that he says the technical foul on Billy Singleton against Duke in the NCAA was complete bullshit horrible call

That's fine and he has solid administrative experience at a highly visible athletic institution which is a very nice attribute.

But if SJU hired the Assistant AD at Alabama we wouldn't say, "Wow that guy knows athletics, do you see how good their football program is?"

Uh yeah their football program is good because they hired this guy named Nick Saban...

Hey dude hope you have a good day!

How does Duke pay coach k 9 million dollars. In large part, athletic development. Who donates to athletic development? Alumni and boosters. How do we get out from mom and pop? Ante up guys.

It's ironic that our other teams do really well but our school needs a big overhaul and who knows maybe this is the type of guy like 72 said being a complete outsider can come in with a fresh set of eyes and no allegiances to anyone inside the school or outside and help guide things in the right direction

That's my hope anyways

Correct. If you have a strong administrator who holds everyone accountable in the athletic department, that is all you can ask for.
So long as he doesn't hire Christian Laetner, I'm ok.
Lol NCJohnnie!
Imagine that...ugh!!
