a lot of endlessly repetitive chatter
$20? I got $40 that says Figueroa averages 10 ppg and hope he gets 20-25 or more minutes per game . Hoping too, that Ponds gets BE Pre Season Player of year . And , in March , BE POY . . and , to really piss off the naysayers , Mullin voted BE Coach of the Year .!
Everyone whose opinion I value here thinks we'll have a great season if Heron is eligible, so of course he'd have a great chance of winning if that happens. You seem to have invented this scenario in your head that people would be angry if he won. If he wins it means we've won a ton of games.

P.S.: If there was a Big East GM of the year I'd bet my house that Mullin wouldn't win it.

Instead of going after the whistleblowers, maybe we should ask what the hell is going on with the staff. Is it the best forum to do so on Twitter? No, but at least it proves that it's not just "negative miserable fans" having some crazy conspiracy theory. The longer we go with the current staff, the more evidence continues to come out that they're in over their heads. A tourney berth this season will silence critics but it would also have to lead to a good recruiting class for 2019 which we have no major commitments in. The point is to be good consistently, not once every 5-6 years.

And a totally 'blow-up' season, going deep to the NCAAs, reaps a great recruiting harvest..(.that works as a prayer, too).

I'm all for being an optimist and saying that a good season could help 2019 recruiting substantially, but aren't we running out of time for the good ones? My fear is that even if we are top 25 and make the Sweet 16 that all the good ones are already snatched up by that time. This is exactly why you need all hands on deck recruiting with more than 1 recruiter and must demand accountability from staff (MITCH). It's not all on Mitch though, Mullin has to realize his status as an NBA HOFer and dream teamer. He has to realize he's a legend at St. John's. He is not capitalizing on that. If I were him I'd be at tons of meet and greets at tri-state area Modell's, shaking hands with fans, taking pictures, signing autographs, running camps with paperwork properly completed (embarrassment), trying to get more NBA legends on campus, going in every major recruit's living room, etc. He just seems to be too passive about being the head coach. Get out there and show your face. I know we won't get any 5 stars that's silly to even contemplate right now...but we should 100% be getting high 3 stars and low 4's. We have worse programs recruiting better. 100% an indictment on staff. No way to spin it. We need to stop wasting our time on 5's completely unless we have a strong sense they may consider staying home.

Well he works for Mullin. What would you expect him to say?
Paul was just being flippant with me. He, and a few others think I am anti-Mullin.....the coach.
I am simply anti-Mullin.......the manager.
Ironically I probably have more insight into the Mullin clan than most of the pro and anti fans but I don't need to fabricate defenses.
I've been on record as saying failure is not an option for our living legend because that legend will be forever tarnished should he fail. It is the main reason his hire was a personal risk for him. Unfortunately being obstinate has been a long trait in his management style. That said, his knowledge and love for the game is unquestionable.
I could give two craps about Mullin's legend. Failure is not an option because at this point the very long term future of the entire program would be put in an extremely dubious position. I too am no doubt labeled a hater because I didn't think hiring someone with zero experience and then watching him install 2 more guys with zero experience was the right next step for the program, nor am I satisfied in the baby steps that almost led to a .500 season in year 3. That said I understand that at this point that this coach and whatever staff he chooses to maintain/install is the long term future of the program. If they eff it up the fans will wish they were DePaul fans for a long time. If they succeed we'll all be happy. Sorry I can't be as confident as some.

I agree that people here will not be angry if we win. In fact, they will be elated and on the bus 100%.

They will forget, though, that they spent the better part of three years bashing, criticizing, impugning the character of, and doubting this staff. Not everyone, mind you. Just the people on here that I like the most, well, mostly.

To be fair, it was basically year 2 that we were almost .500 and would've been most likely a 19 win team if not for Marcus. Year one that team was thrown together at last minute with guys that he wasn't building a program around. So I consider the clock started with Ponds frosh year. So theoretically, he really isn't doing that bad of a job considering in basically year 2 of the program build we were almost .500 and that was without our second best player. This year I'm expecting a bunch of wins with the depth and talent level that we haven't seen in quite a number of years. My only gripe is that Mitch shouldn't be an assistant coach IF he doesn't want to put the effort in. I'd like to have seen an experienced assistant with a great recruiting acumen, however that's not the case. Anyway I'm pretty stoked about this season and maybe a successful season will bring in a couple of stud high schoolers that are waiting for spring to sign.

Whistleblower? Parents should really keep their mouths shut in the public arena of social media. It doesnt help their kid one bit, and this is the parent of a kid who hasn't played one minute or even been part of one official practice yet.

Who says the patent even has a clue? You call him a whistleblower based on what, that mullin hasn't hit every modells in the area as you suggest a head coach should do?

If the parent has a gripe let his kid address it with the coach, not the parent whining on twitter.

Paultz has a new avatar... looks like a picture of Dan Matic “walking away”...

The only person who has to account for the duties of Mitch Richmond is Chris Mullin . .. While many , most perhaps , of the Posters here disparage Richmond for not jumping on the Recruiting Trail , it is quite possible , likely , that Mullin has not delegated any of those duties to Mitch . As a HOF player , and many here on this site never saw him play , he was a All Star player at Kansas State and in the NBA. I would say Mullin wanted Mitch on his Staff for Player Development as a primary responsibility , not Recruiting . But, it’s easy for armchair QB’s, to decide they are the evaluators of Richmond’s role . Not Mullin . In Business , the Manager evaluates the Employees Performance , no one else . In Sports , it works the same way .

I've attached our basketball organization chart. Please note Mitch's box to the far far left.

Hey this thread has made it to 100 pages. The thread title fits.

Respecting authority, ‘power’, abiding by it, is one thing. Defaulting mindlessly to it is quite another and typically / historically has bred hostility by the ‘governed’ (fans) and abuse and failure by the powerful. Check the history books across the gamut.
IF CM assigned Mitch to develop players ‘exclusively’—well, that was a bad decision on two fronts: 1) I haven’t seen ‘much’ In results from PD, and 2) That meant, we’ve been undermanned in the critical AC recruiting function.
So, let’s root like crazy for CM, St. John’s, the individual players, the team—but let's not lose perspective on what constitutes ‘good managament’ or coaching or recruiting or player development.

Good one , 72. Were you a Business School Major at SJU? If so, your Organization Chart wouldn’t have passed Muster . But, it doesn’t detract from the humor of your post .. even I appreciated it . And , as a aside , how many of the Top 50 recruits does any BE School ever get ? Nova is a exception for the last 5-6 years but, before that the Wildcats weren’t beating out Kentucky , Duke, Kansas, Mich State, NC, UCLA, Arizona, etc for many recruits . These Large State Universites , Duke being a exception , have B.B. budgets that are several times larger than any BE School . It makes a difference . And , let’s be real too , many of the large schools mentioned are targeting the 1 and done kids , which nearly all BE schools are not in the running for usually . Plus , a lot of the top 50-100 kids don’t commit until well into the Fall Semester or even , early in the Spring Semester . They wait and see where they are going to get PT and what their role will be .. a lot depends on whether a higher rated player goes to a school they may be targeting . At this point , regardless of the criticism pointed at Mullin , we are in the mix for several players, highly ranked , that have St John’s in their mix . Gaffney, Lewis, etc all have been on Mullin’s Radar for several years and we are in the mix . Whether we get these players or not, is anybody’s guess at this point . The Big Schools will always have an advantage over us and nearly all the BE schools for the top level recruit . It’s the way it is . And , Mike Rice wasn’t going to change that .. Despite the hoopla that he would .,

Lewis is no longer in the mix. I don’t think they would have gotten him, but one staff member was very clear that their chances would have been better with Rice. To me it is not the end of the world, but context is important. A fellow poster who is as wired as you can get & attends practices, etc shares that sentiment I would guess. On to the season.

Thanks Whopper . The point about Lewis was , we were in the Mix , at some point ... He is in that top 50 category and likely will go to one of the Schools I had mentioned . Florida , of the SEC, is clearly in that category . If that is where he winds up , good luck to him ..., another thing about top Level recruits is , they may not live up to the Press Clippings , once they get to these schools . Kyle Anderson of St Anthony’s comes to mind . Lavin’s recruited him strongly but, he went to UCLA , where he was a nice Player but, not All World . He left , after his second or third year and may have landed a spot on a NBA Roster but, clearly as a bench player , with short tenure . Who knows where he is now ? Quickly forgotten for sure .
