Yes, it absolutely is about this year. We haven't had a good year since Lavin's first year as coach almost 10 years ago. We look like we have an excellent chance to have one this year. Let's enjoy it for God's sake. If it doesn't turn out to be a good year, then the staff has to answer for it. If it does, the city will get energized, and just maybe, we can build on it. Hope springs eternal. Let's go Johnnies!
Mullin has elected to utilize the "transfer model" to acquire players which may or may not prove successful. The plain fact of the matter is there is a helluva lot more talent on the St. John's roster now versus 2015 when he was hired, and "no" he has not resorted to getting forged transcripts in a parking lot as an assistant of a prior St. John's failed coach reportedly did.
If Mullin's transfer strategy doesn't prove successful then he will move on and St. John's will hire his successor. That being said any coach deserves 4 seasons to be judged and for that reason this season will be telling for Mullin.
ps. I was told 6+/- weeks ago by a source that would have first hand knowledge that the decision not to hire Rice had been made months ago by the St. John's Administration; not Mullin.
