a lot of endlessly repetitive chatter

Because, as the title of the tread says, it's "a lot of endlessly repetitive chatter"
If redundancy could be translated into money, there would be a lot of millionaires on this site
To sum up 72 pages of gossip, we're not getting Rice and CM isn't hiring another assistant coach
It's time to lock this thread

Winning and sending players to the NBA bring in high major recruits. Not Mike Rice
That's fine, but we could be a one-year wonder without improved recruiting, hence the importance of a guy who'd be willing to do the job. Plus the AAU connection couldn't hurt, right? This was supposed to be a huge recruiting year for us, and we may strike out again with top high schoolers.
I'm speaking in general. I don't think Mike Rice is any type of savior for this or any program. I'm on record as wanting Rice on staff. I want Richmond either gone or special assistant. I want another assistant coach who is able to do the job required of them. However making it seem like the program is doomed now without Rice is a bit much.
Now... I'm probably going to get a lot of shit for this, but whatever. My thought on what is best for the program, is after this year (hopefully a very successful one) is that CM passes on the baton to Greg St Jean. With Matt as his top assistant and bring in a couple of veteran assistant coaches. GSJ in my opinion has a great basketball mind and gets along very well with the players. He's basically had 2 years of head coach experience now anyway. I love Mullin. However I love St. John's more. I don't think Chris has the drive for what's required of this job. Which is ok with me. I appreciate him and what he's done as player and coach. However, I will support and wish nothing but success for Chris if he stays for years to come. I supported Lavin until the end as well. I just want the PROGRAM to be successful no matter my personal feelings for the coach. Anyway, that's my nutty thinking
I don't think it's crazy at all. I believe GSJ and Matt are a great long term bet. GSJ will be a great head coach somewhere and no matter how we get on his inexperience he's got three, and now four years under his belt. I'd rather him get that success here than post about how he was an AC and let him go.

Whatever happens, also going to be hard to get kids in if Mullin's future is in question. I just don't think a contract extension is likely being considered/desired on either side.

While I'm excited for the season, it's hard to be supportive of the leadership.

Richmond salary over the summer could have paid a bunch of academic scholarships.
"Mullin isn’t planning to hire anyone to fill Richmond’s old advisor position. He also didn’t feel he needed to add an experienced Xs-and-Os coach."

So why is this thread so long?
Because it's two years later, we lost 11 straight BE games (Nova / Duke helped get off ledges), and since then we have the same AC who has not been on campus in five months or on one summer recruiting trip.

Great insight Rawdog!
The original plan was always to pass the baton after a few years. Certain unexpected events have clouded that plan. Not having an A.D. and the eventual departure of the current president will not guarantee GSJ a job. You are spot on in regards to the drive of Chris and, by extension, Mitch that has been obvious even to casual followers of the program.
I feel a change will happen sooner rather than later regardless of the record this season if we fail to land impact recruits.
I said it with Lavin going into his 5th season and feel the same with this staff.

Within the last 2 weeks I had AAU guy tell me Rice was happening and to not be surprised fi he brought some players with him. Oh well, just another day of being a Redman fan.

So, you think CM has had an epiphany?

GSJ is under 30 years old and has never been mentored by a coach with college experience. He has been given a great opportunity here and, despite having to feel his way through, is taking advantage of it. I sense he is truly a hard-working, dedicated professional.

That said, I hope our next coach is someone with extensive college experience. No celebrities, no TV analysts, no friends of friends.......just a very hungry career college basketball coach.

We had that in Jarvis and Frachilla neither of which ended well.

Agree on Greg & he would have to bring in two new recruiters for certain.

So I will again ask the question all of the fans on ledges refuse to discuss, name me the major D1 program that had to be rebuilt from the ground up that made more progress in two years? Just asking. I have no idea how this will end up but it is/was way premature to be ledge sitting. After those two years, we have an experienced, talented roster built to play the way Mullin wants to play. If we do not make REAL noise this year, I will probably agree it will be ledge time. IMO, obviously....................

Stockholm syndrome is a condition that causes hostages to develop a psychological alliance with their captors as a survival strategy during captivity.[1] These alliances, resulting from a bond formed between captor and captives during intimate time spent together, are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims.

So you answer a direct question with sophomoric pseudo intellectual psycho babble!! Very impressive, but then again if you were going to shock me any kind of an intelligent response would have worked just fine.

I would like to thank jcoggs for stirring the pot and throwing raw meat out there so all the rabid dogs, foaming at the mouth and howling at the moon, could jump all over it.  B)

If you read that article it notes how Richmond was anxious to be fully engaged in all aspects of being a full assistant.

Fast forward 2 years and in both the April and July live recruiting periods he was absent. Does that sound like someone who is fully engaged in his duties or better yet has been an adequate replacement for someone who made his bones in recruiting (Rohrssen).

And he'd have to move across the country.
Certainly we can do much better.
