a lot of endlessly repetitive chatter

5. If Heron is not Eligible, No Rice, and Mitch continues to steal money = Gimme a freakin' break, same old $h!#t[/quote]

Does anyone know for certainty what Mitch is getting paid ? Is it not possible he is earning the same salary as before Slice left, since there is no additional money for as long as we are paying Slice, about34 months left according to my calculation if no settlement has been reached, but just his title has changed ?
To me that is a real possibility, which if that is the case more than a few of the posts are excessively harsh.[/quote]

Unlike some other private universities where there is information about salaries, at St. John's we are dealing with veils of secrecy and since we ARE paying Slice going into the 4th year of this regime whose reporting lines are as obscure as the black hole, it is irrelevant what Mitch Richmond is being paid. The fact remains he was placed into a headcount position that serves almost no purpose if he in fact is just acting in a special advisor role. St. John's and Bobby Bean Counter should have found the funds to keep the program competitive in the Big East. That Barry is still collecting salary points to the real culpability in the situation where even a half ass attorney as incompetent as Oliva should have advised the president that should this Mullin/Slice feud cost the program and the university then Mullin's contract should have been renegotiated. I'm sure our favorite son would have taken a pay cut for Alma mater. Sure!
Regardless of Mitch's salary and obvious hiatus, how do you explain that of Chris Mullin himself? There are no more summer camps because he (a) doesn't need the money, (b) fails to see the value in exposing young elite players to the St. John's experience and (c) doesn't care about the long run because he thinks his role is to groom his paperboy for the role of head coach.
Mullin has made a few appearances over the summer at recruiting showcases but can you or anyone else explain Richmond's absence this year while he made appearances in previous years? The sad fact is that this staff has scaled back on almost all forms of program involvement over the previous 2 years.
That is why there is so much chatter on this thread.........because the silence from St. John's is deafening.

What are your expectations for a sports forum before the season starts?[/quote]

Outlined it above but realistic expectations are only to have to read slightly less about ledges and daily questions on whereabouts of other grown men. Don’t think I am being unreasonable and can’t be the only one who is perturbed about how things have changed on here.[/quote]

It's all on topic discussion completely related to the forum. I'd understand your point if the thread was derailed into some random topic, but as I and many others see it, these are all legitimate things being discussed. No one is holding a gun to anyone's head demanding they read the posts. I don't agree with many posts, but I'm not going to ask that people stop. I simply scroll past. There are real issues that really matter regarding our program. Even normally positive posters are waking up to realize this.

Maybe we should rename this thread "a lot of endlessly repetitive chatter". That way the 15 or so posters who make up the vast majority of the action can continue to fire away at each other basically saying the same thing, with very slight changes, over and over again.;)

I agree with Sirvoo that this topic has gotten very repetitive with little or nothing new added in recent posts. All that's left to say which hasn't already been said over and over again is Rice either gets hired or he doesn't. When that becomes clear in next few weeks, I am sure there will be lots of reaction here, but there's really not much more to be said before then.

On board with that idea.

I would be happier if the thread closed. Then we can wait for a new topic entitled: "Mike Rice hired". There is nothing else to say on Rice's "almost, possibly, maybe" hire.

This is a sports message board. Here's a wild idea - if you think messages are repetitive, just skip the topic or certain posters and go about your day - that work for everybody?

I would have modified to Chatter Box or Redmen Squawk Box.
It can be used for all generalized chatter and folks can knock themselves out.
The title doesn't imply Rice, Beans or pasta e'fasoul.

Are you really pertubbed at a thread on a message board? Or is it that people are actually starting to hold CM accountable? Let's be honest, if there was any other person sitting in that HC seat, most, if not all, users on here would be voicing criticism left and right. But because many either looked up to him as a role model, have a close connection with him because of the history of the program, etc., people are now expected to temper their concerns, and shut up because it's CM. That time has come and gone. There's an obvious need for an AC hire/change, and it hasn't taken place. The good 'ole boys of CM's circle are still being cared for, probably because the admin is too afraid or lack the necessary courage to step up and say something to CM.

This thread reminds me of having a toothache. It hurts so you put your tongue right on the area where it hurts most. It actually hurts more when you put your tongue there, it doesn't do any good, but you do it anyway.

Kind of reminds me of the summer camp I used to work at as a teenager. There were always a few...

Kid: "Hey! Johnny won't stop staring at me!"
Me: "You can't control if he stares at you...who says you have to look at him? Just look away"

Would everyone rather the forum be totally dead? If the rule was you couldn't post until actual things are announced it would be dead. And btw, the same 12 posters or so are the ones who post 95% of the material...including the ones complaining about (god forbid) repeating points in debates on a sports forum.

Unfortunately I stopped reading a lot of the topics. It’s been the summer which makes many things slow for topics and vacation for many of the posters. The concern I have is that I no longer want to read the recruiting topics either because I don’t really believe that we are going to sign many of the recruits or I don’t want to be disappointed. I am looking forward to this season and hope we get a positive result with Heron. We do need another assistant coach to recruit but I think that topic has been discussed ad nauseum and if we were to hire one it would show up on my Bleacher Report feed.

Oddly last year there was a nearly identically dumb thread about an assistant coach, except that guy was leaving, also based on an unsubstantiated rumor. Evidently SJ fans loves them some assistant coaches, because I checked a couple three other BE message boards and there are no threads on any of them about any assistant coaches.

I completely agree. Take Georgetown, for example - why aren't there more threads on their message board about their 3 assistant coaches, who have a combined 78 years of Division I coaching experience. That seems excessive, no?

How did that work out for them? One game better than us and a loss to us to end their season.

LOL - so you're framing the fact that they were a game better than us in year 1 of their regime when we were in year 3 as a good thing?

I'd love to take credit for some kind of brilliance, but this is common sense that anyone should be able to see. We have a group of assistant coaches that have by far and away - like it's not remotely close - the least experience in our conference, if not the country. Couple that with a head coach who has no experience himself and 3 losing seasons, and it's easy to see why we're talking about them. Assistant coaches play a huge role in recruiting, in-game coaching and player development. This isn't hard.

Yeah? Did those teams finish dead last, or tied for dead last in the conference?

Nice of you to apply your research skills to the topic of assistant coaches. My guess is that maybe no other Big East program has shot itself in the foot like our fabled program that is the [strike]sixth[/strike] [strike]seventh[/strike] [strike]eight[/strike] 9th winningest program in America.
My guess is no other program has been paying a "fired" assistant $600k per year for the past 3 seasons and promoted a "special" [strike]friend[/strike] assistant to occupy the headcount position so we would be short a real live body assistant.
One thing is as certain as last place finishes under this great hard working staff and that is that Mitch Richmond is not working pro bono and that the combined salaries of two St. John's invisible assistants is equivalent to more than the salary of experienced head coaches in Division One programs outside of the top 30 coaches out of 330 head coaches.
Yeah, this talk of assistant coaches would be nonsense at any other school but WE ARE........ST. JOHN'S ,
WE ARE........ST. JOHN'S, WE ARE........ST. JOHN'S!
OH, sorry for being repetitive.
