a lot of endlessly repetitive chatter
I'd like Rice, but I'd prefer Richmond move on even more and give the spot to anyone with remote qualifications and genuine interest.

The five month no-show job since Big East tourney is a joke. He's not a recruiter, does almost nothing during games.. so that leaves drills in practice or watching game film. Not a college basketball coach. Just seems like he did it at Mullin's asking since Slice debacle likely gave Mullin no room to bring someone else on financially so it was cheapest way to fill the role by the seat sliding and ensure Mullin is comfy and has a lunch and workout buddy.

Some may call it NEPOTISM.
.
Heard when Mitch claims to be watching game films he is actually watching Golden State Warrior games.

After a brief road trip and a 2 day vacation from the board, i was really hoping to see some finality on the Rice situation. Instead I found 9 more pages of the same thing, which means 9 pages describing Mitch as a do nothing, with some posts mixed in on the overall mismanagement of the program.

Which leads me to ask where the media is on all of this? If this was Louisville or Chapel Hill or South Bend, and a college sports program had as much going on as this one apparently does, my guess would be that the sportswriters would be all over this. But in NY, SJU basketball doesn't get a lot of coverage in print or otherwise. How often is Mullin interviewed? Is he ever asked about MR's role, or lack thereof? Is he asked whether the recruiting of 4 and 5 star high school players has been more difficult than he expected? If so, why? Has he been in the gyms as he claimed he would be in his first speech after being hired? Without the press doing their part, the only news most of us have is coming from the posts on this board. Which shouldn't be the only option.

If Coach Mullin elects to hire an experience assistant with D1 head coaching experience he would do well to consider John Giannini.
I think Paultz and others have opined that Rice is the only AC candidate we've interviewed.
It's a bit late to 'open up the process'.
No?
Sure, it is Mullin's decision.
But, if Chris passes on this chance to 'right-size' the Staff, he would be ignoring an obvious and critical weakness in Staff structure and functioning.
Ignoring obvious weaknesses in an organization typically leads to failure.
Mullin dosn't want help, he's saying "I can do it, I don't need help, oh if Marcus didn't quit, we'd have been in the ncaa." So it came down one guy leaving huh? Then that's sad.

So let Chris "the man" Mullin do it his way, but he better get it down, because if he doesn't after refusing help.
Everyone will be relentless against him. Excuse me, 95% of the fan base, we know about the other 5%.

In 2.5 months we'll see, or do we wait until January? We did good in the ooc part last year with a tougher ooc schedule. So yeah, we'll probaby have to wait until January.

This year you gotta prove yourself Chris, it's year 4.

I couldn't get past your first sentence because your posts are like the Internet version of a serial killer cutting out magazine letters and pasting them to a sheet of paper. But that first sentence was enough for me to want to call you a complete moron. I've been predicting 26/27 wins if Heron is eligible.

What is with you handful of guys who refuse to recognize the need for a second body on the recruiting trail? Matt already held us hostage once by leaking rumors that he may join his buddy at LSU. He's going to be asking for a huge raise every two seasons, because right now he can.

Difference is in Louisville, Chapel Hill & South Bend, you don't have 2 pro baseball, 2 pro basketball & 2 pro football teams. NYC is a pro sports town. Johnnies only get major press coverage when they are good; otherwise no one but us redmen.comers really cares.

It stuns me that people deny and/or dismiss our critical need for 1 more solid recruiter and a full-time AC that meets all the other duties of that position which Mitch is clearly not meeting.
What bugs me is, sure it's CM's decision. He's the HC.
But he should have the best interests of the University and the future of its marque men's basketball team first and foremost and not his loyalty to a longtime friend who is--because he chooses to be--the weak link on the Staff.
Enough is enough.
And I support Mullin, but this is absurd and must be called out.

To be fair. Rice without recruits will have a tiny effect on Ws and Ls this season. Long term may be a good hire, but for this season rice is just a side(line) dish and not a main course. You guys gotta calm down. Ask your teenaged kids for xanax. They will know where to get it.

Maybe, just maybe, our greatest player has managed to make the program even less relevant than Norm Roberts. When we hired Chris, Mitch, Matt and Slice everyone thought "recruits" and recruits and talent is the name of the game because the current staff offered next to zero in coaching experience. The Slice and Richmond situation has set the program back more than the casual observer realizes. This is still an experiment and we all hope the next few months proves it successful because I don't have much faith that the current university leadership is up to the task of moving St. John's upward either academically or in our favorite sport.

Some "If/Then" statements.............

1. If Heron is eligible and Rice signs = Happy and Patient

2. If Heron is not Eligible and Rice Signs = Patient

3. If Heron is Eligible and No Rice = Happy but little patience for poor performance

4. If Heron is not Eligible and No Rice = Not Happy and no patience for losing

5. If Heron is not Eligible, No Rice, and Mitch continues to steal money = Gimme a freakin' break, same old $h!#t

Does anyone know for certainty what Mitch is getting paid ? Is it not possible he is earning the same salary as before Slice left, since there is no additional money for as long as we are paying Slice, about34 months left according to my calculation if no settlement has been reached, but just his title has changed ?
To me that is a real possibility, which if that is the case more than a few of the posts are excessively harsh.

I have brought this possibility up before regarding Matt. The Rice move would not just be to shut fans up, it would be to help the program and Matt would be the biggest beneficiary. He has all the leverage in the world being our only recruiter and there's no doubt he's frustrated with shouldering all of the recruiting responsibilities. Did anyone see yet another negative post he made on Twitter recently? It was generally something about tough times but having his wife to lean on. Is it possible that the "tough times" part of his tweet is not SJ related? Sure. But if you follow his tweets, he does not seem thrilled with all the work that falls on him alone and the stress of the job.

If we don't get Rice, expect Matt to demand more money or he will quite possibly leave. That's not starting a rumor, it's making an inference. It's clear to most fans that Mullin and Richmond do not seem to put St. John's at the top level of importance. There were rumors that Mullin saw coaching the program more of himself doing us a favor and not really a burning desire he had. It shows. I don't have to tell anyone that Mitch is invisible. We have hired people making tons and tons of money to be in charge of our program and they don't appear to lose any sleep at night over what is happening. We are not asking for the world, we are simply asking for what all other similar programs have. And then we have some posters calling us "negative" or suggest we should just go root for Duke, because our expectations are too high. Is it so much to ask to have coaches who actually care and do their jobs? Even if we are in the top 25 this year and make the Sweet 16, what happens next year? We have no recruits. This act is wearing us thin.

I get it’s the dog days of summer but could some of you do me a favor and look back through these 53 pages and see you’ve posted the same crap over and over and over again. Not going to name anyone specifically but reading your repetitive comments about the necessity for an assistant coach depresses me more than reading news articles about current events in Yemen.

What are your expectations for a sports forum before the season starts?

Well then sirvoo, your 'sensitivities' are way off man. Chill!
Joking.
I know I repeat myself, hard to not when the refrain is the same; it begets the same lament.
But, I hear you.
Here's to some nice Eye-Talian red.

Fair point, I honestly don't know any details regarding Mitch's compensation. But it doesn't change the fact that we are getting very little out of that assistant coach position.

Outlined it above but realistic expectations are only to have to read slightly less about ledges and daily questions on whereabouts of other grown men. Don’t think I am being unreasonable and can’t be the only one who is perturbed about how things have changed on here.

What's Mitch making, 500K?
OK, so it's only a half million, now I feel better.
