2nd DePaul Game

Pressure them just like we did against creighton. Chatman and Brooks are as quick as any backcourt in the BE. Look what we did to them. That is the way we were playing in the pre season and that's the way the team needs to play now. If we get tired we get tired, but to not to play full court d with this team is suicide. Can't get a birdie if you come up 2 feet short.

i agree with this - when we played them in their building, we were very successful pressuring them - they got out of rhythm and looked very very spotty getting the ball up the court.

Additionally, I would start Amar - not only because he had a better game than Felix on Saturday, but he has actually been okay in my opinion this year in the limited role he has played - and we also have to bring more size into this game. I am not a fan of the small line up like we started the Creighton game with. We may have gotten away with it at home against the worst team in the league whose bigs arent really big time threats in the paint, but long term that will not work - and as a lot of teams have found out the hard way this season already, us included, DePaul is very dangerous and very capable of winning, so i wouldnt tinker with the lineup here.

It's already been stated that Felix is starting

But today would be wasted if he didn't disagree with something Lavin did or is going to do

i appreciate your commentary. I really do. Your "rah rah" posts are really cute and inspiring. You like to be all warm and fuzzy and have a nice outlook for the team. Its all good bro. But having watched this disaster that Lavin has quarterbacked, in particular the last two seasons, Lavin doesnt get the right to get a pass. Why should i agree with him? Should i base it on his lights out 1-4 Big East Tournament record? or maybe the fact that the # 3 incoming class in 2011 is staring at a career on ZERO NCAA Tournament games. Or maybe...and this is a good one....since our starting center is hurt we will now start (drum roll please)....Felix Balamou!

So please spare me your cheap shots because i would love to admit i was wrong about Lavin and put my foot in my mouth but this has been an utter disaster and Lavin should be held accountable for the state of the program.

Most of what you say is true about Lavin and I usually agree with it but it certainly seems like you go out of your way to bash him because you have a hate for him that goes deeper than him just being a basketball coach. Saying my posts are rah rah are ignorant, I've been critical when Lavin warrants it but I also defend him when worthless cheap shots are taken at him. Nothing you said this morning was wrong, but i was just tired of seeing it.

I just feel like you have a personal hate for Lavin. Why else would you go on a rant about Lavin being out the door and guaranteed fired after the season when truly it is unknown whether or not he will return. I know you'll probably come back saying you have inside info or whatever, but Lavin said he'd be here next year and I honestly believe him even though I personally don't want him to be here next year unless results are seen.

I don't want to get off topic from the DePaul game, though, so I apologize for starting this and understand if my post is removed it's fine.

well hopefully he wont shoot the ball ten times and play 23 minutes like creighton

@NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin said Felix Balamou will continue to start, has been impressed by junior's all-around game. #sjubb

I had no problem with Felix getting the start against Creighton. In the first game their 4, killed us hitting 3 after 3. You could tell he didn't really want to post up and Felix did a much better job defending the pick and pop. Think DePaul is a similar team and their bigs really aren't that good in the post. Plus giving up 2 PTs instead of 3 PTs in a plus ;)

I like Lavin, always supported him but starting Felix is just plain dumb. Seems like a stunt more than anything. Amar should be starting if CO isn't. That's it.

Here's the thing I like and immensely dislike about our offense. They are in and our themselves, diametrically opposed, so what do I know?

1) I like the way our team has been much more discerning (not perfect, but better) at letting the game come to them and finding the open man.
2) I dislike how our team never feeds the hot hand. Jordan was absolutely sizzling in the first half Saturday but he was just another guy out there and had to wait multiple possessions at times to find his shot and it was all on his own or in the natural offensive schema.

Balamou to me is disciplined on offense. He takes shots in his range. He may have shot 2-10, but I feel given another chance at those 10 shots, may have shot 7-10

Wait, Lavin's dumb? That's a new one I haven't heard, in at least 12 hours.

This Balamou thing probably in the end won't matter.

If I was a betting man I'd bet obekpa will be in right out of the U16 timeout.

If we can't be competitive with DePaul at home for four minutes just because Felix Balamou is on the floor then we don't deserve a tournament bid anyway

Beast, Rysheed touched the ball on just about every possession. He took the shot when he was available and he hit at an amazing clip. That he didn't force anything, and we didn't force the ball to him, was a terrific thing. As someone posted during the game thread, the ball movement was the best that I've seen in the Lavin era. Our offensive efficiency in the first have was spectacular.

As for Balamou, he played well enough that he should start. I'm not sure I would have him jump center but I'm guessing that Lavin wanted Dom back on defense rather than possibly give up an easy bucket off the tip. We likely would have lost the tip even if Dom had jumped.

At the point that he nailed his second or third shot, they should have been looking for him, running plays for him. They were not. When you see how some guys have gone off against us (Carlino for example) teams usually try to feed the hot hand. It's hard to argue with 19 first half points, but if he was really that hot, wouldn't have minded seeing 5 or 6 more shots from him.

Shouldn't you be in class and not your I phone at this hour? ;)

I've been over this. I get the sense you still don't believe me when I say I'm in high school, which is so pathetic and hilarious if true.

I don't forget being 14 and you claiming I was a 40 year old lying on a message board about my age. Lol :)

Lol! Jack, just a few days back I said to you I hope you decide to attend St. John's and become a team manager because you are such a staunch fan. I was more concerned that a teacher would take your I phone away for using it during school hours, calling your parents in for a conference, giving them the phone and them finding tons of messages from a Duke girl, turned Porn actress, trying to lure you to Duke instead of St John's. :cheer: :p

Agree. If Balamou does start against DePaul then that better be his last start. Don't even think about not putting Obekpa back in the starting lineup against Xavier. We can not afford to fall behind early, especially since it is an away game. BTW, Reynolds has been hot.
