2025 / 2026 Roster

Guys like Luis are a dime a dozen in the NBA. There are worse guys who've managed to make it and better guys who haven't. Would love for him to go through the process and tear guys up in workouts and be a first rounder. But short of that, he'll make more in college than he would in his first year in Europe, so hopefully he's back next season.

The current roster will lose the following players?
Graduation:
D. Smith
K. Richmond
A. Scott

Pro:
R. Luis
Zuby - having a great year, might be the time to go pro....why chance getting injured?

I'm not convinced Luis would get drafted, but he could go to the tryouts and then transfer. Zuby is another "at risk" teammate. I could see him going pro or taking some NIL money from a "big pocket" team. Between the graduations and possible pro opportunities/transfers SJU could lose a substantial part of the offense . Also worried about the two Euro kids, Prey and Lefty. They may like the home cooking and a Euro league pro contract more than Jamaica. I'd like to see Vince stay. He's athletic, active and has already learned Rick's system. Maker gets no playing time, I could see him leaving. Never seen him in practice.

It doesn't appear SJU makes much effort to recruit high school kids (none signed and no solid leans, as of now) SJU's 25-26 season will all come down to the transfers (read also: how much cash is available). Sound familiar? It seems like SJU will need scorers (preferrably someone who has made a 3pt shot in a game.)

That's what keeps me up at night...

Do you have any more positive projections for our Johnnies? 🧐

Exactly, I just don’t get the purpose to this overly negative thread. We are having an outstanding, though I acknowledge not perfect season, to date, can we just not enjoy the moment ?
SMH in disbelief.
As we learned in the last off-season players were signing with SJU to play for Rick Pitino at the very last moment, Ruben Prey, let’s focus on this season and worry about who is here next October 15th.

Glover in the last few game has impressed me. I'm a huge Kadary fan, but I am thinking it's possible we get a similar Zuby for Soriano type of net boost losing Kadary. Glover is quick as hell on defense...he might be quicker than Wilcher which is great at the 3... and he's very efficient with his movement. He can also shoot as well as get to the basket.

Let's say he flirts with 40% from three and is a lockdown defender that can guard 1-3 and keep bigs honest. Our press would be supercharged, our perimeter defense would be better, our spacing would be much better, shooting would be better...and then we lose defensive rebounding, some strength, interior defense, and the bully drives.

A senior RJ (fingers crossed) and a junior Wilcher can help make up for some of the driving we'd lose. Prey can take any big man off the bounce next year when he's seasoned. The increased speed will make this a more Pitino type of a team.

Admittedly, a ton of that hinges on RJ returning and hopefully learning to distribute more.

My ideal roster next season:
-Dev
-Sim
-RJ
-Stud 3-D Transfer
-Zuby
Bench:
-Ruben / Lights out shooting Transfer / Brady / Jaiden / Vince / Lefty / Maker

Realistic roster:
- Transfer PG
- Sim
- Transfer Wing
- Prey
- Zuby
Bench: transfer / Jaiden / Transfer / Lefty / Maker / Transfer
That is only 12 and 11 players. Goes up to 15 once the Settlement is signed off and RP in his two years here has been above and at the Roster limit. So I expect at minimum, 13 players.

Forgot that… what kind of players r signing on to be 12-15? Kids that want Ricks rec for Future video coordinator positions…? I mean I would understand that… but don’t think u see any “contributors” at those slots

In terms of who’s here next year and who isn’t, it’s not worth one’s time even thinking about it. It’s not like the good old days where you can plan on this one coming back or this one developing etc. etc, etc. As Pitino has stated, these are not “student” athletes, they are professionals and will go where the money is or whatever suits them.

The only thing you can count on is who is here now and are they earning their pay? Right now with the fine season we are having, most are.

This is a year by year situation where continuity is the exception (except for Marquette), so as RMN said above let’s just enjoy the season at hand.

As I read through this thread, one thing has become absolutely clear to me, I don't give a shit about next year's roster. We have competent leadership in Father Shanley, Ed Kull, Coach Pitino, and Matt A. With Repole being on board, it seems as if we are well positioned going forward and I trust in the process.

If memory serves me correctly, these are all the things members of this board were asking for. As redmannorth stated earlier, I am going to enjoy this season. To speculate on things that I have absolutely no control over is an exercise in futility.

LET'S GO ST JOHN'S!!!

This version of "NCAA" Men's Basketball remains to be a product in development. Aren't we all glad that the honchos in charge know what they are doing. I anticipate that things will get much worse, before they get better.

So much of the focus has been on NIL and fairness in compensation to "student-athletes." Where is the commitment to colleges from the athletes? Where is the concern for a school's fanbase? Maybe a contract, binding a school and a "s-a" is in order.

In any case, let's enjoy this year's team. We have little idea what the roster will look like next year.

Maybe like the Fr. Shanley deal between the Dominicans and Vincentians 😆

This conjures up all sorts of deals . All of whom would never happen .

Could it be 2 Vincentians to be named later?
Or ,1 Vincentian plus a top Seminarian for the current PC President coming to SJ when Shanley retires?

I wonder which Order has the larger number of Priests ?

Neither would challenge the Jesuits remotely .

I wonder too, how many Brothers or Monks there are these days too?
Why wouldn’t anyone thinking of a Religious life chose to be a Brother rather than a Priest ?

50 years ago things would have been different .
