2024-25 Season

Anderson may be happy to just be retired, watch his daughter more abroad, etc. Dealing with NIL and this new landscape may have been frustrating to him as well. The things that the university are firing him with cause for point to a guy who doesn't want to coach.

I do think he's way done being a high major candidate. Him being a retread hire at UAB, or going back to his alumni Tulsa, or going to a smaller school in the south in a locale he likes, e.g. Arkansas State. Honestly, at those places, it may not even go badly.

SJU did not destroy Anderson’s basketball reputation. When he allowed TV cameras into his time out huddles and his words of wisdom were play hard and hit the boards his coaching talents were exposed to all.
It was then the game into a street fight.

Didn't even need that for me.

Just watch his postgame press conferences. It seemed like he never talked about offense, ever (I'm sure he did, but those moments were few and far between).

His playing rotations seemed to be based on who his 5 best defensive players were, and nothing else. It was almost like he felt some magic fairy would simply put points on the scoreboard for his team, as long as they played D.

I could tell that first year, that we had no clue what to do in late game offensive situations. To be fair on this one though, very few teams do. We just seemed extra bad at it.

That being said, unless there was something we don't about (and I have a hard time believing there was), he should be paid his money.

In all honesty, the mic'ed up Xavier game was the final straw for me. Sean Miller was so clinical and on-point, while Anderson sounded completely vapid. "Street-fight mode" was best he could do... embarrassing. I realize that others on this board got there much sooner than I did.

A lot of us crossed the Rubicon that night, myself included.

Theres a lot of off the court issues I know about during the mike anderson era. Obviously everyone knows about all the Curbelo issues but Wusu got suspended for punching a student manager for not giving him more chick fil a. Pinzon showed up on drugs to one of those practices/games when the team went to the DR a few years ago, players were constantly high and skipped classes, etc..

Interesting that Anderson has not had one job overture, as head coach, assistant coach, advisor, analyst, or anything else related to basketball. Not even any motivational speaker gigs! At any level.
Got to admit, he was a great salesman. Convincing our then AD and powers that be that a fired head coach could bring in a championship. Then again, who was our prior AD?

Usually though, the provision only applies to legal issues, or NCAA issues.

I am certain St. John's lawyers know more than I do but it does seem like Anderson did fail “to create and support an environment that strongly encourages student-athletes who are in the men’s basketball program to meet all university academic requirements”

For high majors maybe. There will always be a job for someone with his resume on the low to mid major levels.
I don’t think so. I hope so. But he no longer has any upside. And his system and style do not work. I think schools more likely to fire young coach. Anderson will not ignite any hope or enthusiasm in fan base.

Definitely schools out there that would give Mike Anderson a job that’s not even debatable.
