That program has come out of the gate very strong first year in D-1.Don't look now but UCSD is up to #30 and climbing fast!

If the PAC is looking for another basketball only to pair with Gonzaga, they may be a better long-term add than St Marys.
They can hit the 3. Been on winning side of bets with them a few times. It's actually their 3rd year playing a Big West Schedule, but their first year eligible for the dance. They actually were 2nd in conference last year with a 15-5 record but did not play in the tournament to make sure they didn't steal a bid from another conference team. I don't think the NCAA is required to take the 2nd team when the 1st isn't eligible. I'd wait for a bigger body of work before targeting them in realignment but it's been pretty incredible this year. I've only watched a couple games when UCSD grad daughter is around. She doesn't care but will sit with me to humor me.
Are many of these California Stare schools new to D1? It seems strange that UC San Diego wouldn’t have been D1. It’s a major state university. It's actually their 3rd year playing a Big West Schedule, but their first year eligible for the dance. I think they all are besides Merced and UC San Francisco which is 100% a life sciences school. When my daughter was there I believe they put a D1 fee increase to student vote for the 2nd or 3rd time and it finally passed. I am talking about UCs, not the Cal States. There's a lot of those. Some are D1 but some are not. Only 7 of them play d1 basketball of 23 campuses. Are many of these California Stare schools new to D1? It seems strange that UC San Diego wouldn’t have been D1. Thanks, I meant the UC’s. Did Irvine, Riverside and Santa Barbara go D1 very recently as well.I think they all are besides Merced and UC San Francisco which is 100% a life sciences school. Davis might be recent-ishUCSB yes, the other two I think have a longer history. PS Berkeley and Los Angeles have been D1 for a while.![]()
I can only think of Ken O’Brien when that school is mentioned.Davis might be recent-ish

I should have remembered UCSB. They have been in the NCAA a number of times over the years.PS I was totally off on UCSB and a little off on Davis. Also the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz are also D3.

They also produced a QB who went on to be a star in the CFL. I know this only because he worked with my wife in the offseason.I can only think of Ken O’Brien when that school is mentioned.
Lots of familiarity there. We played Towson in an exhibition. We played Georgia in the Bahamas. Mick is a former Pitino assistantI haven't seen a comment on this, maybe missed it, Lunardi:
